My old dog was called Carter, and it makes me think of Carter The Unstoppable Sex Machine - remember them? Plus, the "-er" on the end of your surname clashes.
Mason sounds very preppy-American and try-hard. I hate it.

I agree that a strong name is needed:

Marcus?
Dominic?

Sorry. Another vote for not using surnames as first names.

But remember that opinions expressed here don't really count. You have to choose the names that suit your child and you are comfortable with.

reginaphilangy · 03/09/2008 22:55

Carter

But not really keen on either. Sorry.

BlackEyedDog · 03/09/2008 23:07

I had Carter on my list but dp binned it.

Your surname is a smasher. Tom or Ben?

borofudge · 03/09/2008 23:14

I'd go with George too.

Clary · 03/09/2008 23:28

I love your surname but it's unusualisn't it. And really strong.

I would deffo go for a more normal everyday first name. A pal of mine has a vv unusual surname which I guess she must always have to spell. Her DDs are Lucy and Emma.

Not keen on the whole surname as first name thing myself, so I wouldn't choose Carter or Mason. Of the two, I prefer Mason with yr surname (not xxxer xxxer).

Some nice other ideas on this thread

frazzledoldbag34 · 04/09/2008 10:22

Barnaby Bravender ????

(Barnaby is my new favorite name, thought I'd be kind and share it!!!!)

3andnomore · 04/09/2008 14:12

I like Mason, fwiw....know a few lovely masons

AccipeHoc · 04/09/2008 15:12

Haven't read all this ,but tbh, I'd choose Jason instead of Mason. Jason is more unusual nowadays and it's got a bit of background to the name.

Jason Bravender sounds like a boy, not a law firm.

ethanchristopher · 05/09/2008 18:22

i love both

i think Carter is better though

MadameCastafiore · 05/09/2008 18:24

Can I chose 'or' as I don't like carter or mason???

Brightfield · 05/09/2008 23:39

Carter is the better choice in my opinion.

How about Chester or Dexter?

raindropsonroses · 05/09/2008 23:46

Mason is a better match for your surname.

TheNaughtiestGirlIsaMonitor · 07/09/2008 21:31

Bruce Bravender, Victor Bravender, Hugo Bravender

They sound like World leaders.

Mason Bravender sounds like a brat.

nkf · 07/09/2008 21:32

Neither. But then he's not my baby.

Olihan · 07/09/2008 21:37

Another Neither from me.

janeite · 07/09/2008 21:40

I love Carter The Unstoppable Sex Machine - but hate both names I'm afraid.

Janni · 07/09/2008 21:49

Neither, sorry. They don't sound like 'real' names to me.

BigBadMousey · 07/09/2008 21:50

Mason was on my list for DS but DH ruled it out - it wouldn't have suited him snyway. I like the name but think some people will mishear it as Jason.

Don't like Carter I'm afraid.

If I were you I'd decide when you see him - at least you have it narrowed down to two.

AbbeyA · 07/09/2008 21:53

Dreadful-sorry but you did ask!

dizzydixies · 07/09/2008 21:54

I knew a Carson once, he was lovely and thats kind of a mix between the two?

donnie · 07/09/2008 21:54

both awful. What's wrong with normal names FFS?

Mason and Carter are uber chav.

BigBadMousey · 07/09/2008 22:37

um...what is a 'normal' name?

kittywise · 07/09/2008 22:39

Oh FGS what IS it with these awful name threads?

Collenna · 02/09/2010 18:22

Well just to prove that not everyone hates your name choices, I love the name Mason ... so much so that I'm now mum to Mason James. My advice ... go with something you love. Good luck!
