Bella? Are Isabella / Isobel the only long versions of this?

Really like the shortening 'Bella' but dislike above names!

Can any thing else be shortened to Bella?

Trixiebelle

bigmouthstrikesagain · 15/08/2008 11:53

Mirabelle (as in Mama) - depends wether you mind your dd being assoc with a cartoon elephant of course

elkiedee · 15/08/2008 11:54

No reason why you couldn't just use Bella, is there?

I do tend to think of Arabella as posh, but still no reason why you can't use it if you like the name.

crumpet · 15/08/2008 11:55

Arabella is pretty, but definitely heading towards poncey territory - but then so was Isabella I would have said and it has suddenly exploded in popularity

LazyLinePainterJane · 15/08/2008 12:00

You could go all Harry Potter crayzee laydee and have a Bellatrix

DisenchantedPlusBump · 15/08/2008 12:00

She would probably be known as Bella most of the time. Just don't want to overstep our council house boundaries! PMSL

I love Arabella, it's my friends name and we call her Bella.

DisenchantedPlusBump · 15/08/2008 12:02

Just asked DH...

'No'

Grrrrr

Arabelle, Anabelle, Belinda, Elizabeth, Isabel, Isabella, Mirabel, Rosabel
Mabel

DisenchantedPlusBump · 15/08/2008 12:18

Anabelle reminds me of that doll,

Belinda sounds 'old'

Elizabeth, as above.

Isabella just don't like.

Mirabel is an elephant

and Rosabel is nice, but can't use anything 'rose' related.

Im not awkward am i??

(thanks btw1!)

I prefer Belle to Bella.

My all time fave is Amelia. Or Matilda.

DisenchantedPlusBump · 15/08/2008 12:33

Amelia is my fave name too, I just refuse to use it.

OP posts:
MrsJohnCusack · 15/08/2008 12:35

Dorabella and all of the above

think Bella on its own nice though

DisenchantedPlusBump · 15/08/2008 12:38

Oh shit

Just remembered... SIL (whose name is nothing to do with bella, had a nickname which then got shortened to Bella by her ex husband)

Obviously being her ex husband they have split, is it a no-no to call the baby a nickname that was used for SIL only by him??

OP posts:
tiredemma · 15/08/2008 12:42

why do you refuse to use amelia?

CuckooChocolateOrange · 15/08/2008 12:43

I love Belinda. It's middle-aged chic.

Annabel is beautiful imo, and you could use Bella as a nn, I like Annabella too but it's a little too "nelly olsen" if you know what I mean.... Arabella I don't like much. Way too deliberately poncey! And Isabella is v.pop.

Belinda, Christabel, Mabel, Annabel. They are all lovely imo. Belinda with Bella for short would be gorgeous. Please choose that! Belinda is just a bit ahead of the cyclical fashion curve, that's all. It's not 'old'. It's ahead

DisenchantedPlusBump · 15/08/2008 12:44

Its too popular, I know a good few of them, I have loved it for years but back then it wasn't as popular,

I'm really looking for something thats pretty, different but not 'odd'

OP posts:
CuckooChocolateOrange · 15/08/2008 12:45

Why do you refuse to use Amelia??

Mirabelle is an elephant, but Maribel is a good Spanish name.

VictorianSqualor · 15/08/2008 12:47

I love Annabel too, if our last child is a girl we will use Annabel as the middle name.

EffiePerine · 15/08/2008 12:48

I like Belinda.

Another variant on Isobel is Ishbel (Scots) which is rather pretty

DisenchantedPlusBump · 15/08/2008 12:51

Not keen on Belinda at all.

Why is this so bloody hard.

I look at all her clothes hung up and I imagine her little face and I can 'feel' a name, I can imagine myself calling her it but I can't say it, I don't know what it is, but I feel like I know what it should be.

Does that make sense?
