Bella? Are Isabella / Isobel the only long versions of this?

Really like the shortening 'Bella' but dislike above names!

Can any thing else be shortened to Bella?

Could you use Belle as a middle name? Then you could sneak Bella past your DH as a nickname...

tryingtoleave · 16/08/2008 12:31

cthea, I was going to suggest clarabel - she's one of the carriages in Thomas.

I like Maribel.

spottyshoes · 16/08/2008 12:55

I know a Gabriella who is called Bella

Mamazon · 16/08/2008 13:03

when i was younger i desperately wanted to change my name to Arabella.
thankfully once i got to about 10 i realised that as my surname is something that big brass and round and makes a loud DING DONG sound...i figured it probably wouldn't be a good idea.

but yes i do love Arabella. I also like Belle.

Sadly no matter what name you choose you will end up finding there are others that have it too.

It took me almost the full 9 months to come up with a name i liked for DD that was pretty but not common, different but not odd.

We ended up with Eleanor...which is now quite common (in use i mean, not social standing)

lilacbloom - love your story about Jezabel. That's hilarious!
Did you rule out Mabel disenchanted?
What about Dulcibel? I know it's silly.
So no Bella at all then - What else do you like?

QOD · 16/08/2008 18:38

My friends dh is Italian and they have a Bella-Mia

wombleprincess · 17/08/2008 07:31

i wanted dorabella but dh put foot down..

seeker · 17/08/2008 07:58

I love Bella - but be prepared for it to be pronounced Beller by all her little friends at school! My ds is always chatting about his friend Beller - I think it sounds horrid!

Podrick · 17/08/2008 07:58

Umbrella

BellaBear · 17/08/2008 08:07

My mum calls me Bella. It's not my name though.

Podrick · 17/08/2008 08:17

Don't answer then

Nappyzoneneedssleep · 17/08/2008 08:22

Bellatrix - i think i just made that up or was there one in harry potter?

LongLiveCuckoo · 17/08/2008 19:49

Bellatrix sounds like a poison. I know the poison is Bella Donna, but it's like a cross between Bella Donna and Dominatrix. All in all, sounds like something that would be on a card at kings Cross.

LongLiveCuckoo · 17/08/2008 19:49

Ps I love Dulcie and Mabel. Not Dulciebel though. Taht is overkill.

ethanchristoper · 17/08/2008 23:06

i know a bella who's name is rebecca ella

she liked becca and ella so combined the two and got called bella

not sure how she came to than conclusion

cthea · 18/08/2008 22:37

tryingtoleave - aha! So Clarabel is a real name. DS used to loves Thomas the Tank Engine, must have been from there. I've heard it often enough...
