blowsy · 29/07/2008 22:13

I know an Emmeline, known by all as Emme (pronounced Emmy).

Lovely name imo, although I would worry about its increasing popularity.

mavornia · 29/07/2008 22:13

I love it - beautiful and classy and very sweet shortened to Emmy

pgwithnumber3 · 29/07/2008 22:14

Is it too similar to Emily though? (good friend has an Emily, although don't leave near her)

OP posts:
EffiePerine · 29/07/2008 22:15

I think of this

reethi96 · 29/07/2008 22:16

You can't have it, because I have already staked a claim on that one!

It is lovely, I have liked it for a couple of years but have noticed it appears to be making a comeback in The Times birth register, so could have potential to turn "rancid" in a few years.

beanybean · 29/07/2008 22:16

My LO (11 weeks) is called Emmy! It is such a sweet name (but I am biased)! We've had a few people think it's Emily but on the whole they get it first off.

artichokes · 29/07/2008 22:19

This is in our top five names for DD2 .

pgwithnumber3 · 29/07/2008 22:21

need to know if it is too similar to Emily though!?

OP posts:
Elkat · 29/07/2008 22:30

Love it. Not too similiar to Emily.

artichokes · 29/07/2008 22:33

Too similar for what?
Yes it sounds similar, esp if shortened to Emmy, but it is different.
What worries you about the similarity?

pgwithnumber3 · 29/07/2008 22:35

Don't want her to think I have copied her!

OP posts:
artichokes · 29/07/2008 22:37

If you had a Caitlyn and your friend then had a Catherine how would you feel?

beanybean · 29/07/2008 22:39

No it's a totally different name to Emily!

floaty · 29/07/2008 22:39

My ds2 has an Emmeline in his class, shortened to Emmy ,I think its lovely

NorthernLurker · 29/07/2008 22:42

I like that too. It's a name you can be anything with. You'll have to give her a good briefing on the suffragettes though - she may spend a bit of time saying -'yes - as in Pankhurst'

pgwithnumber3 · 29/07/2008 22:50

Artichokes, I wouldn't be bothered, it is a different name!

Suppose that answers my question then!

OP posts:
bluenosesaint · 29/07/2008 22:54

First thought it Pankhurst as soon as i read the name, but hey, there are worse people to share a name with

Hulababy · 29/07/2008 22:56

Nice name
