I am 23 weeks and we are torn between Savannah (the name I am leaning towards) and Riley (the name he’s leaning towards). My grandmother and mother’s names are Jane so middle name will be Jane. I really can’t decide which name I like better. Savannah Jane or Riley Jane. My partner has red hair, so we were thinking of waiting until the day we meet her and if she’s born with red hair, we go with Riley. If she’s born with brown hair or no hair we go with Savannah. Ugh it’s so hard!

Other names we’ve thrown around are:
Cheyenne
Hazel
Willow
Juniper
Daisy.

Why is this the hardest decision of my life

love Savannah and I will likely use it if I have a second.

TrojanDonkey · 11/09/2026 11:52

Savannah!

I like Savannah. I thought Riley was a boys name but I'm clearly wrong.

How is Cheyenne pronounced?
I also like your other suggestions.

Needmorelego · 11/09/2026 12:00

I like Riley Jane out of your two.
From your other list I like Hazel Jane or Daisy Jane.

noramoo · 11/09/2026 12:06

Not keen on Riley! Savannah is nice but can get shortened to Sav so something to be aware of. Love Juniper Jane actually.

Forgottenmyphone · 11/09/2026 12:07

I once had a class with 4 Rileys, all of whom were boys. Savannah goes really nicely with Jane, and I love that it can also be shortened to Annie.

Sunbringer · 11/09/2026 12:09

I prefer Riley.

WonderWeeksArentReal · 11/09/2026 12:13

I'm really not a fan of Riley I'm afraid.

Do like Savannah though, that's my favourite from your list.

Cheyenne doesn't sound great with Jane. Juniper Jane and Daisy Jane are both quite nice.

StationJack · 11/09/2026 12:35

Not a fan of either name, they seem a bit downmarket. Hazel, Willow and Daisy are ok.

Cheyenne is Tchay-enn, rhymes with May N.

Daisy Jane is a bit too close to Daisy Chain.

Mumofgirls2017 · 11/09/2026 12:38

I didn’t used to like riley, however now I’ve met one it’s grown on me. I’m not a fan of Savannah, but love Daisy and juniper.

Peanutlicious · 11/09/2026 13:15

I love Savannah

LoudPlumDog · 11/09/2026 14:03

Savannah, 100%.

Riley has so many spellings and always a male name.

user293948849167 · 11/09/2026 19:51

Savannah is lovely
Really don’t like Riley for a girl though - not really getting the hair thing?

I prefer your “other” names though apart from Cheyenne

Riley (given name) - Wikipedia

Savannah Jane ... a great name for a girl with any coloured hair. It is by far my favourite.

Riley is only kown to me for boys, sorry.

Other names for a redhead ..
Scarlett Jane
Amber Jane

ForMyDog · Yesterday 07:13

Hazel Jane is lovely!

timoteigirl · Yesterday 12:01

Of course it is hard because it is a big decision naming a person.

I personally prefer Savannah to Riley. I also like other habitat names such as Taiga and Tundra, especially if born in the winter.
Willow, Hazel, and Daisy seem more common than
Cheyenne - would you consider other native American tribe names such as Apache or Cherokee or or perhaps Montana where the Cheyenne tribe lived? Comanche and Chimariko sound cool, too.
Juniper common on mumsnet

It's not a male name. I've recently heard it for a baby girl born lately.

timoteigirl · Yesterday 16:53

From googling: In the UK, it is still primarily a boy's name, and was the 40th most popular name for boys in 2016. Until the 1990s and early 2000s, Riley was primarily a boy's name in the United States.

Savannah is rather nice. Riley is AWFUL.

roshi42 · Yesterday 17:08

I prefer Savannah. Daisy Jane sounds too much like daisy chain. Juniper Jane is cute as it could be JJ for a nickname. Hazel is lovely

That's as maybe, but it's a surname-as-a-first-name and predominantly used for boys.
Would you want to be one of four Rileys in a class when the other three were boys?

I think Savannah is a bit not very classy. Sav. I think the same about Sienna.

I don't like Riley for a boy and definitely not for a girl.

boysmuminherts · Yesterday 18:36

Those saying Riley is a boy's name obviously haven't watched Inside Out!
My favourites are Savannah and Hazel from your list. I know 18 and 19 year olds with those names.

Firebird83 · Yesterday 18:51

I don’t like either. I had Susannah Jane on my list which I think is much nicer than Savannah Jane.
