My name is always on these threads 🙈, but then I don't like it myself either. Typical 60s/70s name.

Lisa, Joanne?

I don’t think it’s possible to predict what names will or won’t come back. When I was younger I used to dread people asking my mother’s name as it sounded so old fashioned (as a child you worry about these stupid things!!)
It’s since been in the top list of names for about the last thirty years.

Mona
Rona

I know what you mean. My mum's name was 'Amy' and I hated it, I remember telling people she was 'Amelia' when I was a kid. I knew no Amys amongst my peers, it was a very old-fashioned name.

Then suddenly loads of people had children they called, 'Amy'.

There's at least one Mona at my daughter's school. Not sure how old, my daughter is 13, Y8.

TinyTear · 27/04/2026 08:38

I know a primary school Ida

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 27/04/2026 09:32

Boys' name, but I thought it might be of interest here - I was listening to Sounds of the 70s yesterday on Radio 2 and Mark Radcliffe read out a message from a listener mentioning a two-year-old Rodney. Not a name I ever expected to hear on a male born since the 1980s! I thought Only Fools and Horses had killed it off.

AInightingale · 27/04/2026 09:56

The only Rodney I ever met in my life would be in his 50s by now. Oh, and Keir Starmer is Keir Rodney too I think.

My cousin is Nell, she's 32 this year and her middle name is Agnes. I have a friend with Evelyn who's 8.

I know a twelve year old Heather.

I can’t imagine Geraldine, Gillian, Sharon or Lorna coming back. Or maybe Michelle.

My parents had quite classic names, but gave me and my siblings very much horrible of their day 70s names. DH has a name never used now.

Firebird83 · 27/04/2026 22:30

There’s a Heather in the baby room at DD’s nursery

I've always liked the name Michelle. I haven't heard of any youngsters with that name for years although I know or knew several adult Michelle's.

I like Lorna @WhatWouldTheDoctorDo

Heather, Hazel, Holly, Rowan are all lovely names. Not sure about Ivy though - still has that old lady vibe for me.

I know a secondary school aged Ivy. It's not commonly used though.

Suchardchoccy · 28/04/2026 11:31

I also have an Ivy

Fridgedooropen · 28/04/2026 11:45

Ida, on the other hand, I can't see coming back. Knew one when I was very young. Haven't seen it used for decades.

LemonTreeGrove · 28/04/2026 12:31

I like Ida. I've never seen it as an old person's name as I've never known any older people with the name and I had a story book as a child with the story Little Ida's Flowers, so I see it as a little girl name.
