I know the name Oscar is very popular at the moment. We really like it as it is such a lovely name but also really love Ozzy as a nickname.

Just wondering how many Ozzy’s people know (in real life.. so not Ozzy Osbourne haha).

thanks

My DC are 14 and 17. They know about 5 Oscars between them, none are Ozzy.

Alexander is a classic name, Oscar is currently fashionable…

I work in a child related field so have seen a lot of Oscar’s over the last 10 years. I don’t recall any using the Ozzy nickname though. I would have thought that would be from Oswald. The stats suggest there’s been been around 3000+ Oscars born a year for the last 15 years or so. It’s been a fashionable name for ages.

I know quite a few that are secondary school age, none of them ever get called Ozzy. Don’t know any younger children called Oscar, but then I don’t know that many young children at the moment.

ScruffMuffin · 22/03/2026 22:42

I'm a teacher and know about half a dozen Oscars, all known as Oscar.

I also know a baby (friend's grandson) who is just called Ozzy.

Don't know of any Oscars nn Ozzy. Which is it that you really like?

Teacher, lots of Oscar’s none called Ozzy but 95% of Oscar’s in my experience are a pain. It’s one of those names where you know you might be in for a difficult year l.

It is weird that there are naughty names. There have been a few threads on this recently! How do you feel about Archie?!

Of course Op, there must always be exceptions!

Madthings · 23/03/2026 19:34

I have an Oscar, age 23. Occasionally gets called Ozzy, Oz Bozz, Oscar Fruitcake... insert random nickname here.. 🤣 he was always the only ine in his year group but it has shot up in popularity but its not like 3 in a class popular. I havent heard of any little Ozzies the ones I knew from work reception class tended to be Oscar.

Its a fab name.

I've heard that said about Jayden and similar names before, but never Oscar. Funny how suddenly the Oscars are problematic when it had never been said before..?

I know one Oscar and he's a sweetie and never a problem to teaching staff. Emphatically not an Ozzy though (like PP I would think that derived from Oswald rather than Oscar). If you want him to be both Oscar and Ozzy, you'll have to call him Ozzy straight from the off so when he goes to school it's his "known as" name.

I do associate it with the late Osbourne and I'm not a fan either, but if you like it that's what matters. Hope the induction goes well

Mine is 16 and an Ozzie.... Oscar when in trouble. We do also cal him Occysnock, Snockdoodle,

Gowlett · 24/03/2026 12:09

Most of the Oscars around here are 10 years old or older. Never heard of an Ozzy.

bohnerific69 · 24/03/2026 12:11

I have an Oscar, he’s 7. Only one in his school but it’s a small school. Only met 2 others so far, both in his beavers group. We never shorten it to Ozzy though.

Zimunya · 24/03/2026 12:12

We have an Oscar in the family - he's an adult now. I don't think anyone has called him Ozzy in his life, ever.

deltapanda · 24/03/2026 12:19

I didn’t realise it was a fashionable or fad name when I named DS8. Like pp above I thought it had a classic, international appeal.

He's the only one in his school but one of a few in his interest group.

MolkosTeenageAngst · 24/03/2026 12:20

I know two Oscars, one aged 4 and one aged 9. Neither are nicknamed Ozzy.
