How many Oscars (nick name Ozzy) do you know?

I know the name Oscar is very popular at the moment. We really like it as it is such a lovely name but also really love Ozzy as a nickname.

Just wondering how many Ozzy’s people know (in real life.. so not Ozzy Osbourne haha).

thanks

Nicknames evolve, they aren't set in advance.

What will you do if you love Ozzy so much but he gets called Lollipop or 'Nana or Racket or any of the infinite nickname possibilities which emerge as he lives and grows in the world?

If you like Ozzy, call him Ozzy. Don't call him something else and forcibly retrofit the name you actually like.

Why would he be called those names or are they just random examples? Just want to check I am not missing anything that would directly link him to those names

I know an Austin that gets Ozzy but I don’t know any Oscar’s

GreenMarigold · 22/03/2026 09:46

The only baby Ozzy I know is Oswald.

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 22/03/2026 09:47

Two dogs, one cat, and one person but he is a young adult (uni age).

Catcatcatcatcat · 22/03/2026 09:49

A couple.

One is a Jack Russell and one is a Staffy.

BananaSkinShoes · 22/03/2026 09:50

One, he’s 25. Never called Ozzy.

I know a cat called Ozzy.

They are exactly the kind of totally random words that emerge as nicknames. Could come from a habit, a word, a day out, a food preference, an event... anything. That's how nicknames come about. Hence why if you like a certain version or spelling, use that, although even that may get evolved as well.

My own family nickname isn't even a real word, it evolved from my difficulty in saying something when learning to speak and many decades on it has never been shaken off (even in public 😭😂)

Do you not have pet names or nicknames for anyone in your friends and family?

Professor Wiki tells me there were two Kings Oscar of Sweden. The mother of Oscar 1 was a French lady of Irish descent called Desirée Clary. In fact Napoleon suggested the name to her after reading the old legends. Now there's posh for you.
Good luck with everything OP 🍀 🤞

I love the idea of consulting Napoleon like a baby names book. Though as he ditched Desirée for Josephine, it’s nice they stayed on good terms!

I’ve known a few Oscars and never known one called Ozzy.

I’d be concerned people would think you’d named him after Ozzy Osbourne who despite the adoration wasn’t really a great bloke in lots of ways.

BoleynMemories13 · 22/03/2026 10:20

I know loads of boys called Oscar, mainly in the age 6-18 age bracket (it doesn't seem quite as popular as it once was, around me, in the under 6s).

Not one of them is known as Ozzy though, to my knowledge.

Mumofgirls2017 · 22/03/2026 10:37

I know 4 Oscar’s but none with nn ozzy

feelingsickpreggo · 22/03/2026 10:38

2 Oscar’s and only 1 of them goes by Ozzy

Notmymarmosets · 22/03/2026 10:39

One dog.

shuffleofftobuffalo · 22/03/2026 10:50

Three - an adult, a child and a dog.

Daffodilsinthespring · 22/03/2026 10:50

None

Hotandpointy · 22/03/2026 10:53

I know 3 small Oscars, two of whom regularly go by Ozzy and one Oska.

NormasArse · 22/03/2026 10:54

One.

Know two other small Oscars though.

FlatStanley50 · 22/03/2026 11:21

One nephew, nickname Oz not Ozzy. There’s also one at my daughter’s school. Think he’s just known as Oscar. They are both tweens.

SkinnyOatFlatWhiteForMePlease · 22/03/2026 11:22

Three Oscars under 2, one has gone by Ozzy since birth.

user1492757084 · 22/03/2026 11:31

I know two Oscars around the age of twenty.

I know of three younger ones but I've never seen them.

RodeoClown · 22/03/2026 11:50

Loads but that’s because my husband is Australian so I know a lot of Australians. It’s a popular name there.

I do agree that Oscars are rascals. It’s a cockerpoo name and the boy Oscars seem to also have that vibe.

boulevardofbrokendreamss · 22/03/2026 11:55

several Oscars, none go by Ozzy

Emma8888 · 22/03/2026 13:19

Several Oscars, one was Oz, shortly thereafter know as Wizard.

angelcake20 · 22/03/2026 13:48

No Ozzys, and I was a teacher until last year. Lots of Oscars, all lovely.
