Yay or nay. Asking for a friend. Passé 1930s or due for a revival?

Is this for real?

ACatAsleepInYourHat · 11/02/2026 14:39

I'm actually warming to it. I'd go the full alliterative hog and call him Busby Berkeley Balonz. It has a certain something, don't you think?

I feel so old!
Big yellow bird advertising BT!

I know someone who knew the man who drew Buzby.

Allseeingallknowing · 11/02/2026 14:42

Busby= guardsman helmet
Buzby= B T cartoon character

101Alsatians · 11/02/2026 14:43

Boomb! You've kindly just named the kids's new guineapig 🤭

Emori · 11/02/2026 14:46

I prefer Trafford and it's nicely gender neutral as well.

Good to see other people remember the BT bird!

What's your opinion on it OP?
Just curious.

See I think of Busby Berkeley. The guy who did the dance choreography in 30s musicals. Maybe I’m wrong. Now that people have mentioned the BT character, that’s even worse! 😳
Not a fan.
but cute nickname. Like Buzz Lightyear!

Isn't it a hat of some type?

To me it falls into the category of 'could be cute on a toddler, can't picture it for an adult'.

Maybe Trilby instead?

wishingonastar101 · 11/02/2026 14:11

I was assuming this was about an area of the UK to move to.
No, it's not a good name. Not even for a pet.

Barney might be better? (still a daft name but better)

Ohh I like Barnaby maybe I can sell that one!

Yep.....all I can think about is the big yellow cartoon bird from the BT ads.

Topseyt123 · 11/02/2026 15:07

No! Ridiculous. Please don't.

Quite a good name for a pet dog, cat, rabbit etc. Not for a human child. You'd be setting them up for a lifetime of ridicule and explaining.

That was Buzby not Busby. Sounds the same though.

BleeBlahBlue · 11/02/2026 15:10

Why are people insisting on calling their children names of towns just outside Glasgow?!

Paisley as a name is horrendous but Busby is worse.

Some Scottish place names are fine but they don't even have a nice sound!

Eagerly awaiting Eaglesham, Gowkthrapple and Bonkle

DiscoBeat · 11/02/2026 15:14

Nay

boxofbuttons · 11/02/2026 15:21

Makes me think of the Busby Babes, I wouldn't!

London

To be fair, London parents do seem to use a random noun generator to come up with their offsprings’ names, just for the amusement of the rest of the nation.

BellyPork · 11/02/2026 15:22

Just when I think I'm over the cruel removal of the laugh emoji, a thread like this comes along.

AlbieJiggered · 11/02/2026 15:23

@BleeBlahBlue , My DC are Paisley and Anfield.

WearyAuldWumman · 11/02/2026 15:23

Nope. Reminds me of that ad campaign.

I like Barnaby. It isn't bonkers. Well, not after Busby.

Piggywaspushed · 11/02/2026 15:48

When born the child will be a Busby Babe. Don't do that. Grim.

RuthW · 11/02/2026 15:50

Is this a joke? It’s a bird’s name.
