Yay or nay. Asking for a friend. Passé 1930s or due for a revival?

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

As do I. If you imagine a Busby wouldn’t be ridiculed in London, go ahead and use it for your own child. You’ll find out…

I don’t think children are ridiculing each other for their names nowadays, the population is so diverse and there are so many more names out there.

Blueuggboots · 11/02/2026 14:02

It’s the name of a character who used to advertise British telecom.

absolutely not.

Christwosheds · 11/02/2026 14:03

Busby isn’t a name. It was the nickname of Busby Berkeley whose first name was actually Berkeley, he used his nickname and surname together as his stage name.
I really dislike nicknames as given names, so it’s a no from me.

SecretSquirrelLoo · 11/02/2026 14:03

Nice for a fluffy pet

Who’d name a baby after a guardsman’s fur helmet. The poor child would be subjected to ridicule!

Brother could be Bearskin 😂.

Tryagain26 · 11/02/2026 14:05

Has Busby ever been a name? I've never heard it.
Busby Berkley musicals were popular in the 30s but Busby was a nickname not his real name.

MrsKeats · 11/02/2026 14:05

Behave

London

Tbf children who aren’t from the capital don’t have as much opportunity to visit our royal palaces so can’t be expected to have had the same exposure.

wishingonastar101 · 11/02/2026 14:11

I was assuming this was about an area of the UK to move to.
No, it's not a good name. Not even for a pet.

Barney might be better? (still a daft name but better)

I feel so old!
Big yellow bird advertising BT!

That's how I remember it too!

Busby?
Applecharlotte2 · 11/02/2026 14:11

No way - it’s a birds name

Lindy2 · 11/02/2026 14:13

I'm old enough to immediately remember Buzby the BT bird.

I appreciate it was a while ago but it still seems more of an animal/cartoon character name to me.

Couronne · 11/02/2026 14:15

I'm having a strong vision of a chorus line of dementedly-tapping guardsmen in bearskins, with Carmen Miranda belting out some catchy number with fruit on her head. Other than that, it's mildly adorable...

Fodencat · 11/02/2026 14:16

Horrific

BitOutOfPractice · 11/02/2026 14:20

Yep. Busby is a big yellow advertising bird for me.

I’m actually quite heartened I’m not the only one old enough to remember him.

Isn’t busby a NN anyway?

MyMilchick · 11/02/2026 14:21

Nay.......sorry

Calliopespa · 11/02/2026 14:22

for a black fluffy cat maybe

Growlybear83 · 11/02/2026 14:26

Busby is just cruel.

PersephoneParlormaid · 11/02/2026 14:27

Unless it’s a yellow bird, no.

Crimblecrumble1990 · 11/02/2026 14:27

Would be fine where I live too.

AlbieJiggered · 11/02/2026 14:27

@MidnightPatrol , that's only what you think.

User253853 · 11/02/2026 14:28

Only if you're hoping for a phone call.

Ridiculous.

YourWinter · 11/02/2026 14:30

purplecorkheart · 11/02/2026 14:01

For a rabbit maybe. Nor for a child.

I’ve heard a woman in my former office refer to her (adult toy) battery-operated “Rabbit” as their Busby. OP don’t, just don’t.

AlbieJiggered · 11/02/2026 14:30

Busby (military headdress) - Wikipedia

MrsAvocet · 11/02/2026 14:35

My sister had a dog called Busby once. Her husband is a lifelong Man Utd fan and all their dogs have had related names. I have never heard of a human with Busby as their first name, other than Busby Berkley which as others have said was a nickname anyway.
