DH has just suggested this name. We were joking about having a whirling dervish child with the nn Taz and he said Tasmin.
I checked it was a real name and we both really like it.
Tamsin doesnt have the same appeal as we both know Tammys who are quite wet...sorry if you are or have got a Tammy!
What do you think?

@Tryingatleastwhixh Disney film is there a Yasmin in?

chunkyBoo · 27/12/2025 08:52

my friends have a Tasmin - it’s nice - she’d be in her 20’s now

I meant Jasmine but my phone changed it!!! 😅

Aligirlbear · 27/12/2025 09:42

My only concern would be you and your child may face a lifetime of providing the correct spelling as the majority of people will want to spell it Tamsin and if that’s ok then go for it. Your DC your choice.

Frogbear · 27/12/2025 09:45

I think it’s a lovely name.

Funnily enough I’ve met a couple of Tasmin’s but never a Tamsin so hadn’t heard of the latter being a name until this thread!

EmotionallyWeird · 27/12/2025 20:28

I love Tamsin but I don't think I really like Tasmin. I've only ever heard of one person called that and I think of it as a modern invention, plus it would probably always be mistaken for Tamsin. I think you could get away with using Taz as a pet name for Tansy or possibly even Tabitha.

Yasmin is much nicer than Tamsin or Tasmin imo.

Isn't Yasmin a contraceptive pill?

onegingeronetabby · 27/12/2025 21:44

I’m related to a Tasmin and it’s a beautiful name. I don’t think it’s any more likely to be misheard than any other similar names Anna/Hannah, or Louise/Louisa/Eloise.
If you like it; then use it; and congratulations on your wee one!

LiquoriceAllsorts2 · 27/12/2025 22:50

I am Tamsin and have spent my whole life having people misspell or say it as Tasmin so very shocked by this thread.

Tasmin is a name.

This thread is so weird.

This 👆

Of course Tasmin is a name. Maybe ask the violinist Tasmin Little, who’s been called that for her entire life…..

TBH all the variations remind me a bit of Tamarin

PermanentTemporary · 28/12/2025 00:23

I know a Tasmin. Nice name though it took a little while to get used to.

OccasionalHope · 29/12/2025 11:04

Anastasia? That would work for nickname Tas.

Giraffehaver · 29/12/2025 22:54

Thank you for all the comments. Tasmina is lovely but we prefer it without the a. Those of you mentioning Tazmanian devils...that's the point!

I have an unusual name, similar to a common name and spend my whole life just accepting being called the wrong name. I cba to even correct it most of the time.

so if you are already getting annoyed by people not liking it/suggesting Tamsin instead then maybe think again.

Fairyvocals · 29/12/2025 23:12

It’s pretty and it makes me think of the violinist Tasmin Little, which is a nice association.

miniaturepixieonacid · 31/12/2025 03:05

I like it. And Taz and Tazzy are cute nicknames.

Kitjo · 31/12/2025 04:04

I taught a Tasmin - she was intelligent, smiley, and could draw you in. It never occurred to me that her name was anything else other than Tasmin

Silverbirchleaf · 31/12/2025 04:07

I read it as Tamsin which I like.

Tasmin I’d presume was a typo, as evidenced by this thread!

What about Thomasina?

DreadingWinter · 31/12/2025 10:28

Tasmin is a lovely name. I know a beautiful girl with this name. Ignore some of the comments here. Her name is never mixed up with any other name as people can read!

PinkBuffalo · 31/12/2025 10:49

My friends daughter Tasmin nickname Tas I love it definitely go with it if you love it she has never have a problem with it 🙂

localnotail · 31/12/2025 11:33

Tasmin will always be confused with Tamsin.

Also, Tasmin reads like misspelt Jasmin.

How do you know? I doubt that my mother would tell her friends that my name gets mispronounced or misspelt.
I don't tell my mother that it does.

Firebird83 · 03/01/2026 21:22

I haven’t heard of Tasmin. Only Tamsin or Tasnim the Arabic name

I know two. One is a very good friend. I don't know how this name has passed you by.
