Help me choose! A sibling for Finley, Rupert and Clara...

A sibling for Finley (Oliver), Rupert (Theodore) and Clara (Elowen).

Middle name this time will be Maria if a girl in honour of my mum, or Charles if a boy (mum's name is Carole Maria and Charles and Carole have the same name roots, plus it's DH's AND my dad's middle name).

These are our top choices:
Girl:
Sadie
Dulcie
Tessa

Boy:
Wilbur
Casper (this would have been Clara's name had she been a boy)
Barnaby

Opinions please! Surname starts with P with two syllables and is quite unusual (English).

Are you open to alternative suggestions or do you just want feedback on your listed choices?

I'm confused by the names in brackets. Is that their middle names?

Of the choices you've given, Tessa (one of my favourites) and Caspar.

Sorry, yes I should have made that more clear!

Thank you. I love Tessa too. I just don't love Tess as much.

Of your existing choices, if it’s a girl, I’d go with Tessa as that feels like the best fit with your children’s names. I initially thought Madeleine or Eleanor (or Elinor) would fit well, but I’m not sure Madeleine goes with Maria.

Of the boys’ names, I think Barnaby works best with the existing names (or maybe I’m just biased as I like it!).

DuchessOfNarcissex · 17/11/2025 11:32

Sadie - like it
Dulcie - awful
Tessa - I like Tess

Wilbur - pig
Casper - prefer the Caspar spelling
Barnaby - like it

FraterculaArctica · 17/11/2025 12:00

Of your girls names, I think Tessa is the only one that goes with the siblings- the others are a very different vibe. But Tessa Maria is a bit odd. Other suggestions- Elspeth or Phoebe? Saffron?
Boys - I'd avoid Casper as too similar to Clara, and definitely too many C's with Charles as a middle name! Either Wilbur or Barnaby work, prefer Barnaby. Gabriel or Sebastian would also work well I think?

GoldenRosebee · 17/11/2025 12:05

I like Dulcie Maria and Barnaby Charles

HighburyHope · 17/11/2025 12:06

I like Tessa Maria! How about Jasper Charles for a boy, which avoids having too many Cs?

Zitroneneis · 17/11/2025 12:17

I would choose

Tessa Maria

Quentin Charles

I don’t like Sadie as it looks like Sad-ie, someone sad.

Zitroneneis · 17/11/2025 12:18

And I agree that Clara & Caspar are too similar - especially when saying quickly together!

W0tnow · 17/11/2025 12:20

Hugo Barnaby P…..

MidnightMeltdown · 17/11/2025 13:04

Sadie is best out of the girls names imo.

I think Wilbur is best out of the boys. I don’t like Casper (probably because it was commonly used a taunt when I was growing up, for anyone with pale skin). Barnaby I quite like but it will be shortened to Barney which I like less.

PrincessOfPreschool · 17/11/2025 13:18

Tessa Maria sounds like a sports car! I also wouldn't have Tessa and Clara as sound too similar.

I love Barnaby Charles. Or Sylvan. Aidan?

Eleanor is nice, Sylvia, Kristin, Erin? I do think probably not ending in 'a' like Clara.

PrincessOfPreschool · 17/11/2025 13:19

I meant to say I just think of Sadie as a really 80s name and I'm not sure why!

falalalalaaaaaaaa · 17/11/2025 13:45

I like Sadie and Casper!

peoplegetreadyforthetrain · 17/11/2025 13:46

Why not just go with Maria as the first name if it’s a girl? It’s beautiful.

Moreteaandchocolate · 17/11/2025 15:24

Finley, Rupert, Clara and

I love Tessa - beautiful name that you don’t hear too often, and I love the simple shortening “Tess”
I also like Sadie - it’s got a pretty sound
Dulcie feels a bit downmarket compared to your other names

Boys - I like Casper, if you don’t mind the shared initials with Clara.
Barnaby is gorgeous for a little one but I struggle to imagine an adult Barney - I’m sure it would grow on me though.
Similarly with Wilbur - and he may become Will for short, which sounds plain compared to your other children’s names.

Suggestions

Heidi
Iris
Daisy
Elsie
Sylvie
Polly
Stella
Ada
Betsy
Edie
Mabel
Hazel
Daphne
Gwen
Margot
Delilah

Wilfred (Wilf sounds great with your other children’s names!)
Stanley
Hugo
Jasper
Toby / Tobias
Austin
Rory
Victor
Vincent / Vinnie
Reggie
Howard / Howie
Gilbert
Douglas / Dougie

Cocktailsandcheese · 17/11/2025 16:40

How about Alice for a girl? Or Beatrice?

For a boy, I like Barnaby, or how about Felix?

dontforgettofloss · 17/11/2025 16:50

Definitely Sadie for a girl, a beautiful underused name

MidnightMeltdown · 17/11/2025 19:08

I thought Tessa was short for Theresa. It makes me think of Theresa May.

I think Sadie is more unusual.

I agree with all this.

For some reason in my childhood there was a saying Sadie, Sadie, cleaning lady. And written it looks like Sad-ie.🙁

I really don't like Dulcie either, and agree it doesn't go with the others at all.

Tessa I like, but would Tessa Marie work?

Casper is too like Clara, doesn't go well with Charles and I'm not as fond of it as your other choices for a boy, which I think all work with Charles.

DuchessOfNarcissex · 17/11/2025 19:13

@MidnightMeltdown ,Tess of the d'Urbevilles was a Teresa.
