Which do you prefer, husband's or mine's names?

So we both agree to only pick 2 names,
DH suggestions are : Carter and James.
While mines are Diane and Jane.
We are expecting a little girl. So his choices are a bit stupid to me.

Any thoughts

When reading the names Diane and Jane I think of 60 year old women. Maybe something more modern?

Diane- I'd personally go Diana (which I love!)
Jane- much prefer as a first name but I do prefer the second 2 you've listed, Clara and Emily

Well speaking as someone who is a girl (an older one , but still), I would not thank my dad for giving me those names.

Yours are better by stint they are at least girls names.

A girl called Emily is more likely to blend in than a girl called James.

Jane is nice. Carter is awful, James is a boys name, I'm not keen on Diane.

James is a bit try hard for a girl, Carter is not a nice name for anyone.

Are you in the UK? A girl called Carter or James would most certainly not “blend in anywhere”, she would get curious comments her entire life!

Emily Jane is lovely!

Jane, Diane and Carla are also completely fine as first names, and make a pleasant change to the vowel-heavy and L sounding girls' names that are everywhere at the moment. It doesn't matter whether other MNers would choose them!

A girl can be Jamie (as in Jamie Lee Curtis) which is pretty close to your list's Jane and his list's James - could that be a compromise you can both live with?

I think Ryan Reynolds daughter might be called James 🤣🤣 for the love of god don't call her Diane poor kid!
