Just that really.

I’ve read a few old threads on here where associations with Jade Goody were bought up, I’m early twenties and had to google who that even was though so does it still matter?

It’s my name and while I’d rather have had a different one as a kid I don’t mind it now.

I can also confirm I am not trashy, naughty, or a stripper 😂 I’m fairly well behaved, like to make jam, and have 2 degrees in medieval history 🗡️

CharlieKirkRIP · 23/10/2025 13:08

It would be shortened to Jay or J which would be absolutely ghastly.

Rituelec · 23/10/2025 13:09

I have a Jade under the age of 14. She's the only Jade in the secondary school of 1300 kids, which makes life easier.

Short, sweet and strong.

I still love her name.

None of her peers know Jade Goody.

I prefer it too the a ending names. Most of her year are: Ada, Ava, Eva. Isla.

This has never happened here 😐

Moveoverdarlin · 23/10/2025 13:12

I see Jade as really chavvy. Naughty girls in school in the 90s were always called Jade.

I would put it in the same bracket as Keeley, Jenna, Kerry, Carly.

People were saying the same on the older threads I read personally I don’t get it lol the only Jade I’ve ever met was really sweet the furthest thing from trashy or naughty

@Moveoverdarlin I quite like Jenna! However I agree with everything else in your post.

MaybeItsTimeForMeNow · 23/10/2025 13:26

Its a no from me. Sorry!

caffelattetogo · 23/10/2025 13:29

I like it. Simple and ready for a new generation. Plus it reminds me of Jade Jagger.

It’s currently the number 1 baby girls name in France 🇫🇷

I’ve never actually met another Jade in my life. I’m 41 and my mum wanted a name that wasn’t too common back then but it’s become much more popular since.

Becky028 · 23/10/2025 13:31

There was a time when it became overly popular and a bit chavvy. It's not a name I'd choose.

OSTMusTisNT · 23/10/2025 13:34

It's fine but probably old fashioned for now. Everyone i know called Jade are mid 30's at the youngest.

Crushed23 · 23/10/2025 13:36

I can’t believe it’s been 16 years since Jade Goody died. I feel old.

Yeah, I would say no one is associating the name Jade with Goody anymore. Isn’t there a singer called Jade now? There’s also Jade Jagger.

Skintone · 23/10/2025 13:37

I would say it had identical associations to Danielle, if that would concern you.

peoplegetready · 23/10/2025 13:38

I know 2 Jades 1 in her 20s and 1 in her forties, both lovely people,
I really like it

Emanwenym · 23/10/2025 13:39

It’s currently the number 1 baby girls name in France 🇫🇷, but pronounced differently and doesn't have the 'jaded' association there.

I think of Jade Jagger. Jade and Amber seem like hipster baby names from the 1970s.

If you like it @Applebye , use it, but bear in mind that Jude and Jayden are very popular.

Amber is the nicer of the two.

user1492757084 · 23/10/2025 13:40

Jade is fine.
I prefer Jane and Jean.

@Thewalrusandthecarpenter , I don't like Jenna. It's a Dallas name. A Jenna will be a Jenna Louise because it's a 1980s name.

JadeSeahorse · 23/10/2025 13:43

Cough cough!!

Do you need to ask? 😁👍

MsMcG · 23/10/2025 13:44

To me its a trashy name. The only Jade's I knew growing up were chavvy.

Which is a shame, because it is actually a beautiful name

GrrrrrrrBrrrrrrr · 23/10/2025 13:51

I love it. It’s a great name

Arlanymor · 23/10/2025 13:53

People can be trashy, names are not.

But it makes me think of 'jaded' and always has, which isn't a great association.

Ddakji · 23/10/2025 14:12

SriouslyWhutNow · 23/10/2025 12:10

It’s just a bit basic, isn’t it? I don’t think it screams doctor, pilot, teacher or accountant. Even before Jade Goody it was always a bit of an unclassy sort of name.

Honestly, this is such a snobbish and frankly dumb take.

Shitmonger · 23/10/2025 14:22

One of the definitions of jade:

  1. DEROGATORY
  2. a bad-tempered or disreputable woman.

I wouldn’t do that to a child. As many others have said, it also has numerous other poor connotations.

@Ddakji , in your opinion. OP asked for opinions on the name, not on snobbishness.
and frankly dumb take. makes your opinion seem dumb.
