Just that really.

I’ve read a few old threads on here where associations with Jade Goody were bought up, I’m early twenties and had to google who that even was though so does it still matter?

Needmorelego It was the first one syllable name that came to mind, that's all! But I was thinking bird, not NavyGrin

I used to read far to many historical saga war novels which are always about young women joining the Wrens, WAAF or ATS 😂

Rituelec · 24/10/2025 10:46

I met a man called Jade and his eyes were the most beautiful I've ever seen.

dailyconniptions · 24/10/2025 10:21

Yes, Amelia is a terrible name for that reason and the awful 'mealy' noise in it. I was shocked that a doctor would even call her child it. (Emily Andre.)

But its still so popular :/

ForZanyAquaViewer · 24/10/2025 14:25

I don’t like it. I don’t think most people here do/will. However, you clearly do, so use it and be happy?

Rituelec · 24/10/2025 16:24

FWIW I think Marmite names are the best names! Always a good talking point.

IfHeWantedToHeWould · 24/10/2025 18:56

It’s more interesting then yet another Evie/Ava/Amelia or Olivia.

JillyGiraffe · 24/10/2025 20:03

Jade makes me think of the term ‘jaded’ which isn’t what I’d want to associate with a beautiful, bright new baby!

Just googled, I've learned something todayGrin

Caleb64 · 24/10/2025 21:28

I adore it.

EmotionallyWeird · 28/10/2025 19:17

I don't like it much because of specific associations with people I've known, but I don't think it's an awful name. The main famous(ish) person I associate with it is a rather cool singer with the slightly unfortunate name of Jade Wade. Look up the band The Odd 910 on YouTube.

StrongLikeMamma · 28/10/2025 19:26

I actually think it’s a really pretty name. It’s a bit like Ruby. Quite cute too.
But then I can also see why lots of people think it’s a bit “trashy”
I have never met a Jade so don’t have any connections to it.
Up to you OP.

If you like short names how about:
Grace
Elle
Pearl
Bea
Gwen
Leah
Mia
Tula

PurpleDiva22 · 28/10/2025 21:08

Im a teacher and any Jades I've had have been nice girls. I would like to think we've moved away from "a doctor or lawyer would never be called X" bullshit 🙄 it's not a name I would choose personally but I like it / don't dislike it.

CoralPombear · 28/10/2025 21:14

I think it’s a pretty name but I know a Jade who embodies that kind of trashy nature and I don’t really like her so the name is spoiled for me. But then most people have weird personal attachments to names.

I’m sat here thinking if I can imagine ANY female name on a lawyer and I know this is a little sexist of me but I’m really struggling, with the exception of a handful of names popular in the 1950s like Susan or Margaret and even then I just struggle to picture it for some reason. I don’t see why Jade would be any less of a lawyerly name than Jane or Olivia.

Most doctors go by their last name.

The argument really doesn’t hold up anyway.

It's a very 90s name. I was a student in the 90s and met a Jade for the first time then and I thought it was pretty cool. But since then it became very popular and, for me, was bit spoiled because of that. Now I think of Jade the singer from Little Mjx, and I quite like her songs and her conversation on the radio, so I think that carries more positive connotations. It's short and fairly simple and I also like that. If you like it, go for it.

Kumquatzest · 30/10/2025 23:58

I think it's a bit dated to the 80s/90s and kind of a "mum name" these days. There's nothing particularly wrong with it though.

I don't think the Jade Goody association is a big deal, she passed away and kids nowadays probably won't know about her.

Jadebear · 31/10/2025 00:14

Shitmonger · 23/10/2025 14:22

One of the definitions of jade:

  1. DEROGATORY
  2. a bad-tempered or disreputable woman.

I wouldn’t do that to a child. As many others have said, it also has numerous other poor connotations.

I can be both!

Applebye · 03/11/2025 13:22

DancingNotDrowning · 23/10/2025 12:35

Jade falls into the same category as Amber, Crystal, Brooke, Taylor, Bianca for me.

Slightly grim and depressing.

Slightly grim and depressing lol, I actually agree with you on Brooke and Taylor. Horrible names on a girl

It’s just a bit basic, isn’t it? I don’t think it screams doctor, pilot, teacher or accountant. Even before Jade Goody it was always a bit of an unclassy sort of name.

Wow. Snobbery is also not very cool.

theunbreakablecleopatrajones · 03/11/2025 20:07

I find it a bit harsh, and it possibly does have a bit of a low end vibe right now. It's also quite 70s like Saffron and Sasha - I'd probably think of Jade Jagger before Jade Goody

Emanwenym · 03/11/2025 20:27

@Screamingabdabz, Maybe not, but it exists.

manineed · 04/11/2025 15:15

It’s one of the top baby girl names in France, in the top 3.
But over here I think it’s a bit dated, not met any babies or children called Jade for a long long time.

Hyphenated names are seriously awful and chavtastic.

That gets said a lot on here but in all honesty I think it depends on the names.

I know a lot of Sarah-Janes and a couple of Sarah-Kates from the 80's and they were anything but chavtastic.

Emanwenym · 04/11/2025 19:15

@Calliopespa , most of the Sarahs I know are Sarah Jane.
Hyphenated names are naff, even if Emma-Louise was privately educated, Anne-Marie went to Cambridge etc.
