Tabitha or Paloma?

Evening!

I have two daughters: Matilda & Jemima.

Which of these names would you name their baby sister who is due later this year? Both names go well with our surname.

Matilda, Jemima & Tabitha

or

Matilda, Jemima & Paloma

Struggling for nicknames for Paloma, but have lots for Tabitha. Our daughters are called by their full names by our/ their friends. Although Matilda does get Tilda/Tildy at home and Jemima gets Jemi/Jem.

Any other suggestions? We would like another 3 syllable name that ends in ‘a’.

TIA xx

They called her Marigold and hoped she would 😁

Ooogle · 19/10/2025 12:56

I prefer Tabitha to Paloma with your other names although do like other posters suggestions of Louisa and Lydia too.

I’m not a fan of marigold as a name

Tabitha Cecily
Tabitha Willow
Tabitha Wren
Tabitha Aurora
Tabitha Hazel
Tabitha Lily
Tabitha Seren
Tabitha Dahlia
Tabitha Sylvia
Tabitha Pearl
Tabitha Dawn
Tabitha Laurel
Tabitha Felicity

edited to add- just saw a pp suggestion of Tabitha Florence which I think goes really well

I really like both names but feel like Tabitha just "goes" with your other girls names.

Tabby or Bitta is a very cute nickname

Tabby or Bitta?? 😂😂😂

Calliopespa · 19/10/2025 13:54

Sybil or Sybilla?

Firebird83 · 19/10/2025 13:59

Talitha could also work as an alternative to Tabitha

Purplecatshopaholic · 19/10/2025 14:07

Both gorgeous names op.

Bitta bitty? ( That's a David Walliams reference).

mathanxiety · 19/10/2025 22:13

Tabitha.

Paloma comes across as more Spanish than your other names.

It also ends with -ma, like Jemima, so you'd have a matchy pair and one left out.

Alexandrine · 19/10/2025 23:21

Marigold and Melody both feel quite retro to me (Marigold to the 20’s/30’s and Melody to the 60’s/70’s). Have you considered looking in your family tree for something with similar vibes but a more personal link to you?

If not, I love pp suggestion of Tabitha Beatrice - feels a bit more timeless.
Or Tabitha Imogen or Tabitha Florence?

YourWinter · 19/10/2025 23:30

I agree with pp that Jemima and Tabitha is too much Beatrix Potter! I don’t like the name Paloma, but the emphasis on the middle syllable flows well with the other girls’ names.

Delilah
Ophelia
Serena
Alicia
Leonie
Christina
Catriona
Simona

Locomom · 19/10/2025 23:34

I prefer Talitha rather than Tabitha ( reminds me of a cat) could by Tali for short

I like Tabitha Beatrice. I don't really like Marigold with the other fruity/flowery names, Clementine and Primrose. It sounds a bit like a farm shop - a bit overly "themed."🍊💐🏵

It goes with Paloma ok, but I think is a very different style of name from Jemima and Matilda, and I don't think it really sits with them all that well.

Jamclag · 19/10/2025 23:41

Paloma is lovely but Tabitha 'fits' better with your style of names.
How about:
Agatha
Talitha
Camilla
Isadora

Although personally I would go for Polly, Abigail or Caroline - similar vibe without being too matchy with your other names.

I prefer Paloma on its own but I think Tabitha goes better with Jemima and Matilda.

Agree with this but do like previous suggestions of Allegra and Lucinda too.

Lucinda works - another Beatrix Potter name!

mathanxiety · 20/10/2025 02:37

For a nature-inspired middle name for Tabitha:
Tabitha Laurel
Tabitha Willow
Tabitha Robyn
Tabitha Paloma
Tabitha Cecily
Tabitha Rue
Tabitha Delphine
Tabitha Violet
Tabitha Daphne
Tabitha Fern

falalalalaaaaaaaa · 20/10/2025 03:52

Tabitha a thousand times over!

1984Winston · 20/10/2025 07:52

Im biased as I have a Tabitha but think its a lovely name, mine is a Tabby (we are cat mad which is why we picked it!)

MissScarletInTheBallroom · 20/10/2025 07:58

I like Paloma better on its own but Tabitha goes better with the other two.

Very Beatrix Potter vibes.

Thanks all for your messages. It’s given us lots to think about and I think we’re probably going to use Tabitha. It just feels like the best fit!

Trying to find a suitable middle name is also proving difficult. We have Matilda Clementine, Jemima Primrose and Tabitha ???

Feel like Tabitha needs something very feminine to balance it. But what?

Tabitha Marigold?
Tabitha Melody?

Any ideas would be most welcome 🙏

Edited

I can see with your other daughter's names that you have gone with the nature type names for second names and Marigold is pretty but I think have been inclined towards a no fuss name with Tabitha e.g Tabitha Joan.

Emanwenym · 20/10/2025 20:15

A two-syllable middle name would be better than 1 or 3. Heather?

Emanwenym · 20/10/2025 20:44

Hazel?
