Tabitha or Paloma?

Evening!

I have two daughters: Matilda & Jemima.

Which of these names would you name their baby sister who is due later this year? Both names go well with our surname.

Matilda, Jemima & Tabitha

or

Matilda, Jemima & Paloma

Struggling for nicknames for Paloma, but have lots for Tabitha. Our daughters are called by their full names by our/ their friends. Although Matilda does get Tilda/Tildy at home and Jemima gets Jemi/Jem.

Any other suggestions? We would like another 3 syllable name that ends in ‘a’.

TIA xx

Tabitha. Paloma is quite nice too but just makes me think of the ghastly Paloma Faith.

I love these names but I think having a Jemima and a Tabitha sounds a bit too Beatrix Potter.

I thought that too! But I don't see the issue really. You need to push on for a Thomasina (Tittlemouse) op! Or a Cecily (Parsley!)

HighburyHope · 16/10/2025 14:12

I prefer Tabitha.

How about Lucinda?

Firebird83 · 16/10/2025 21:53

Tabitha goes better with Matilda and Jemima

What about…

Beatrice
Clara
Lydia
Cordelia
Sylvia
Cecily
Susanna
Harriet
Louisa
Philippa
Rowenna
Felicity
Rosanna
Theodora
Verity

But honestly Tabitha is perfect

Yes I think Paloma has a different feel, while Tabitha goes perfectly.

I know Paloma is dove, but it somehow always brings a horse into my mind. I guess I'm think palomino.

I vote for Tabitha (because that's my daughters name so obv its the best!!)
She was always Tabitha at home and school until she went to college and it got shortened to Tab or Tabs. She won't answer to Tabby as she isn't a cat Grin

lol my Tabitha is Tabby …. Calling her Tabitha gets a Paddington bear hard stare lol 😂

BunnyRuddington · 18/10/2025 07:12

I love the name Tabitha, not sure how DD didn’t have that name, but with your other names I would go with Paloma, which I also love BTW. Difficult to choose between two such lovely names Wink

WhereAreWeNow · 18/10/2025 07:17

I prefer Paloma on its own but I think Tabitha goes better with Jemima and Matilda.

Stars15 · 18/10/2025 07:25

I have a Tabitha. She gets Tibs from her friends at school. My second girl is Beatrix (which I think also goes with Jemima due to the Peter rabbit reference of Jemima puddleduck and Tabitha twitchit) and her nickname is Bea or bumblebee.

Alexandrine · 18/10/2025 22:05

Paloma is pretty but sounds quite “exotic” compared to Jemima and Matilda - which sound more stereotypically British to me. Tabitha is more similar in style to her sisters names imo and would be my preference in the sibset. It also avoids repeating the “ma” in Jemima and Paloma.

Other 3 syllable names that feel similar in style to Jemima and Matilda to me, apart from Tabitha, would be Louisa, Claudia, Helena and Serena.

Bairns · 18/10/2025 22:18

Thanks all for your messages. It’s given us lots to think about and I think we’re probably going to use Tabitha. It just feels like the best fit!

Trying to find a suitable middle name is also proving difficult. We have Matilda Clementine, Jemima Primrose and Tabitha ???

Feel like Tabitha needs something very feminine to balance it. But what?

Tabitha Marigold?
Tabitha Melody?

Any ideas would be most welcome 🙏

No I’m that old too but the association doesn’t put me off Tabitha somehow.

I think Tabitha Marigold works beautifully with your other two DDs names OP Smile

Tabitha is lovely. Wish I’d had a chance to use it.

theunbreakablecleopatrajones · 19/10/2025 12:47

Paloma - lovely and underused.

I do like Tabitha, but it's a wee bit twee, especially combined with Jemima (B Potter to blame for that, obviously).

Others..

Cassia
Estella
Fernanda
Serena
Adela
Saskia
Philippa
Rosanna
Celia

Or if you aren't set on another ah ending then

Verity
Marianne
Cecile
Genevieve
Christabel
Emmeline
Adelaide
Rosamund
Rosemary

But I'd go with Paloma..
