This is a very specific list of an entire Year 1 class OP! Not cool!

Emanwenym · 20/09/2025 12:12

@EnterNowhere , you are in Wales, probably an area where it's not predominantly Welsh-speaking, probably the South.
I'd ask to have the thread deleted as that list could be recognised.

Sam390 · 20/09/2025 12:27

A lovely bunch of names there OP! But naming everyone in the class is pretty outing!

NuffSaidSam · 20/09/2025 12:27

Of your list we have Arthur, George, Teddy, Isabelle and Poppy.

EnterNowhere · 20/09/2025 13:33

This isn’t a whole class list.. I wouldn’t post that. It’s a mix of a few different classes, as well as groups we do and omitted names also. We have a large school with several classes of each year group. I’d be surprised if anyone from any of the classes can recognise it. I’ve seen similar threads before.

OP posts:
Emanwenym · 20/09/2025 13:43

@EnterNowhere , you've got a name on there that is given to fewer than 20 babies a year.

Huge overreaction! These are all trendy, common names now, this could be a list of many primary school class names.
I'm actually gutted to see my own DS's name has made an appearance but at least he's an adult now!

Welsh names are beautiful. Some of my family have names in this list.

I'll just say that I did a baby group last week and a baby was named Disney.

And? Why does that matter? She's not given any identifying information beyond 'I know a kid called X'.

Even if there are only twenty X's per year there will still be thousands upon thousands of people who know/have met an X.

Got a Bianca in my daughter’s class! Thought that was an interesting choice!

Genuine question (not being a twat),Why is Bianca an interesting choice?

Emanwenym · 20/09/2025 14:37

Because it is Shakespearean.

Emanwenym · 20/09/2025 14:56

@NuffSaidSam , it's a name popular in certain areas only. I know or have known of 4 in my entire life and one was a sportsman (1980s and 90s), one an MP (late 80s- early 00s), one the father of someone I was at school with, and the other the much older brother of an acquaintance.

Thousands of people will have heard of the sportsman and MP, but again, it will be region-specific.

Is that a problem though? Even if all of the thousands and thousands of people live in one place? It's not giving away any private or identifying information to say 'I know a kid called X'.

Emanwenym · 20/09/2025 15:06

These are all trendy, common names now @JasmineTea11 .
One of those names was registered 13 times in 2023. The same number of times as Gerald but not as many as Trevor.

@NuffSaidSam , There are enough underused names to probably narrow it down to a school.

ButterPiesAreGreat · 20/09/2025 15:07

DD is at uni now but in her first couple of years at primary, there was a girl called Bootsie.

Genuine question.... Why is this list a problem / outing / being reported? It's just a load of names. Even if you did post the actual class register, without any further comment, how does this cause offence? Excuse my ignorance. I'm actually asking because I really don't understand the significance or impact.

Same here. OP said she made changes. I'm sure she's not daft!

Emanwenym · 20/09/2025 15:38

It could be an area like Wrecsam.

@NoNameNoOne , because the names are a mix of popular names and some that are only used a few times and likely to be only used in some areas.
Somebody might recognise the class/school from the list.

I've thought of another instance of [name]. A character in a soap opera. Does that count?

honeylulu · 20/09/2025 15:47

Ok this is a rough mix up of both my kids classes/friends/hobby groups in and out of school and our friends/relatives kids. I've left out the Asian origin names as there are lots of different ones and I've also no idea how to spell most of them. I've also left out any which are particularly unusual and outing.
