Secondary so I don't know all their year groups, but half DDs friendship group sèm to be called a variation of Bella. The others being Gracie and Beth.

Emanwenym · 20/09/2025 15:06

These are all trendy, common names now @JasmineTea11 .
One of those names was registered 13 times in 2023. The same number of times as Gerald but not as many as Trevor.

@NuffSaidSam , There are enough underused names to probably narrow it down to a school.

Ok....and the problem is that everyone at that school now knows that someone else from that school uses Mumsnet?! Is that an issue?

Shocker isn't it?!

SlashBeef · 20/09/2025 16:35

I won't be posting a class list but I know lots of Ethan, Jack, Josh and Louies.

There's more to it than that.

My child is in preschool and the names I hear are: Freddie, Arlo, Albie, Charlotte, Theo

Emanwenym · 20/09/2025 17:05

The info on here could be available indefinitely.
The set of names could identify the school and the individuals.

Starwars1989 · 20/09/2025 17:42

There’s a little girl called Lolita in my daughter’s class, surprised me when I heard it

Mugcake · 20/09/2025 17:43

Genuine question.... Why is this list a problem / outing / being reported? It's just a load of names. Even if you did post the actual class register, without any further comment, how does this cause offence? Excuse my ignorance. I'm actually asking because I really don't understand the significance or impact.

Exactly. Just typical of some of the types you get on here - getting themselves worked up over absolutely nothing! 🙄🙄🙄🙄

@Whateverwillwedonowthought it was a bit like Gary. Don’t get many of them these days. Was honestly surprised to hear it.

BrokenTrampoline · 20/09/2025 18:15

Impressively, over the 4 classes and multiple intervention groups I've had, there have only been 2 names from the entire thread (I've checked carefully, too). I'm quite surprised!

*Jake and Luca/s

Alexandrine · 20/09/2025 20:08

Don’t want to be too outing, but apart from my DS almost all the boys names either end in a O sound (think Theo, Leo, Arlo, Milo…) or a 2 syllable “ee” ending sound (Charlie, Harry, Alfie, Lenny etc). My sons name is of the classic/traditional sort (Alexander, William, James etc) and it seems to stand out at school far more than it would have 20/30 years ago.

For girls there does seem to be slightly more variety - but there are still a lot of 2 syllable vowel heavy names ending an “ah” (Ava, Isla, Lyla, Mia etc) or 2 syllable names ending in an “ee” sound similar to the boys (Evie, Lily, Phoebe, Poppy etc).

Even though there are no doubles as such, imo the sounds of the names tend to blend together quite a lot. Personally I think that if you want your kids name not to blend in then you need to avoid a 2 syllable, vowel heavy name - whatever the actual popularity of the individual name (for example there are no Olivers or Olivias in DS class).

Confused19831983 · 20/09/2025 20:49

Also here to ask - what is the real world problem of posting names? What harm will this create in the real world other than outing the OP? Interesting how no one has explained!

Which name is so unusual? I am intrigued as they all seem quite normal names.
