We think we are down to our contenders for our first baby due next month, we have kept the gender a surprise.

We both are huge country music fans and that's were some of the inspo on the boys names comes in - I know they won't be everyone's taste.

What are peoples honest opinions, I know the boys names especially aren't overly common in the UK but I think they are recognisable enough and easy to pronounce.

Boys

Rhett Oliver
Nash Jude
Atlas Terrence (Terrence is family name)

Girls

Aubrey Florence (nn Bre or Aub)
Ottilie Honey (nn Ottie or Otts)

Thanks :)

Rhett is okay. It’s unusual enough in the UK that he might have to put up with Gone with the Wind jokes when older, but that’s probably not the end of the world.

Nash is just too incongruous in the UK for me.

Atlas is lovely and becoming quite trendy now (just the other day, I heard a mum calling for little Atlas at a city museum). But I do think it depends on what circles you mix in - in my rural home area (all Theo, Noah, Isla and Ava) an Atlas would still stand out quite a lot.

Aubrey is very pretty but still more of an old boys name to me. However there so few boy Aubrey’s about these days that I don’t think it’s at all a problem to use it for a girl (apart from her possibly getting it misspelt or misheard as better known Audrey).

Ottilie is fine. Not my personal cup of tea as it’s super trendy, but nothing wrong with it.

My faves of your list are Atlas and Aubrey.

I'd go for Rhett out of your 3 boys' names. I think of the dashing Rhett Butler from Gone with the Wind, whereas Nash makes me think of gnashing of teeth and Atlas is a map.

I've always really disliked Ottilie (too close to "utterly") and I'd worry that people would assume Aubrey is a boy, although I'm aware it has become used for girls in recent years. I prefer Audrey, like Audrey Hepburn.

If your vibe in girls' names is ones ending in an "ee" sound and slightly out of the ordinary, you might like Xanthe, Penelope, Coralie or Sylvie.

Atlas is also the guy who held the world on his shoulders in mythology (which is the only reason it's also the name for a map). He's not a bad character!

I know an Aubrey and she gets called strawberry

TheDisillusionedAnarchist · 07/08/2025 18:15

Rhett and Nash both perfectly nice
I nearly named DS Atlas but glad I went for something rarer as when he was eight weeks old we met another Atlas at a baby group,.

Aubrey is a boys name to me but is used for girls more and more. I’d prefer Ottilie and Ottilie Honey is nice but I’d caution it’s likely to date, it’s very much a name of now.

Rhett would absolutely get called retch at some point. Once you see it you can't unsee it

"Rarer" than Atlas?!!

Goodness me, I'm clearly living in very conservative conditions.

Atlas is in the top 200 names and rapidly rising, it’s as popular as Kit and Owen and more popular than Dominic. Trendy sure but not rare.

Aubrey is famous for being Boycie's real name in OFAH. I can't associate it with anything else.

roisin8 · 07/08/2025 22:05

I’ve only ever heard of girls called Aubrey so I’m surprised at the whole it’s a boys name comments!

I love Ottilie! I’m not keen on your boys names I’ve got to be honest but if I had to pick one it would be Atlas.

Congratulations and hope everything goes well! X

I like Atlas. I quite like the sound of Nash but can’t get away from “gnash”. Rhett is meh, I think of a cross between Rhys and Brett and not in a good way.

I don’t like Aubrey, for boys or girls, but I do like Audrey. I like Ottilie but not with Honey as a middle name (double ee end sound).

I know a few babies called Atlas so not sure if this is on the rise. I don’t mind Nash, how about Everett and call him Rhett?

Aubrey and Ottilie are both nice enough. I’m not sure if I prefer a different spelling for Aubrey for a girl - I know a few Aubrie’s. Don’t actually know any male Aubrey’s despite a lot of comments that it’s a boys name.

Other suggestions - Chase, Griffin, Easton, Knox, Crew, Brooks, Tate, Sawyer, Cole, Lawson

Addison, Delilah, Ada, Ophelia, Athena, Clara, Nova, Audrey, Ember

SpandauValet · 08/08/2025 08:05

Think boys names should all be flipped so the “edgy” names are the middle names.

Ottilie is nice, but getting popular. Aubrey I don’t like personally but it’s not horrific.

greglet · 08/08/2025 10:03

Ooh what about Tennessee as a boys’ name? If I were bolder/could get DH to agree, it would be on my list. It’s the name of one or Reese Witherspoon’s sons.

blueskydays45 · 08/08/2025 11:28

I knew you were a country music fan as soon as I saw Rhett followed by Nash in the title. Personally, if you aren't bothered about comments about unusual names, I'd go Rhett but I am swayed by the music connection. Without the music connection, I'd go atlas. Girls, I'd go Aubrey.
