Rhett vs Nash vs Atlas / Aubrey vs Ottilie

We think we are down to our contenders for our first baby due next month, we have kept the gender a surprise.

We both are huge country music fans and that's were some of the inspo on the boys names comes in - I know they won't be everyone's taste.

What are peoples honest opinions, I know the boys names especially aren't overly common in the UK but I think they are recognisable enough and easy to pronounce.

Boys

Rhett Oliver
Nash Jude
Atlas Terrence (Terrence is family name)

Girls

Aubrey Florence (nn Bre or Aub)
Ottilie Honey (nn Ottie or Otts)

Thanks :)

Totally agree, some people's thought processes are wild. You'd think these are totally outrageous name choices. Thanks :)

I like Ottilie. Aubrey is a boys’ name.

Of your boys’ names, I prefer Nash and Rhett; Atlas is having a moment and will date really quickly, I think. Do you like either Tate or Wyatt?

AnnaMagnani · 07/08/2025 09:08

I like the boys names.

Ottilie has been having a moment for some time so I think you will find it isn't unusual and will date. Aubrey I'd assume was a boy, I don't think it's a unisex name.

lunniss23 · 07/08/2025 09:10

They are a similar vibe, I quite like them - will def put these to my other half. Thanks :)

Love Atlas, I can imagine it on all ages - lovely name.

I like both of your girl names but I think I’d go for Aubrey for the sheer fact it’s the less popular one.

Don’t worry too much about the responses - MN have an older demographic of users, a lot of which no long have young children. These names would definitely not “raise eyebrows” in my DS’s nursery. People are using a much wider range of names these days - especially for boys.

TheFairyCaravan · 07/08/2025 09:11

I like Ottilie. The rest I’m not keen on at all, sorry.

LessOfThis · 07/08/2025 09:12

What about Aubrey Plaza?!?

DeliciouslyBaked · 07/08/2025 09:14

Agree with pp - Ottilie has been a big riser recently and I think it will date it. There are lots around us (London). What's the country music link - i thought it was european origin?

What about Florence as a first name? I love that name.

Your boys names are not to my taste but of the three I like Atlas the best.

What about Aubrey Plaza?!?

For sure! Lots of female Audrey's - in my opinion it is now widely more known as a female name.

I thought I made it clear I obviously didn't lol. It was the boys names that had the country inspo. The girls names are just ones we like.

I’m a big fan of Gone With The Wind so love the name Rhett. I like Nash too, I’m not a fan of your other names.

Thanks so much, appreciate it. I think you are right, I don't consider them a wild choice, different maybe....

I think they believe all boys should be called Edward, Paul and Thomas. 😂

You're right that Audrey ( with a d) is usual for girls in the UK; it's a post-war name and those are about to come into fashion. Aubrey (with a b) is a boys name here.

RosesAndHellebores · 07/08/2025 09:23

Oliver Jude works well and is nice
Ottilie Florence
Florence Audrey

As others have said Aubrey is a male name.

Personally I don't like the other names on your list and think the child may be more comfortable with something more mainstream - speaking as an older person who took a lot of shtick as a child/younger person because my name was uncommon.

TheGirlWhoLived · 07/08/2025 09:23

I would just be aware of the current literary connections! Atlas was one of the main love interests in It Ends With Us (the hugely popular Colleen Hoover book that got made into a bit of a train wreck of a film with Blake Lively) a very successful chef from a domestic abuse household

And Nash Hawthorn from the Inheritance Games trilogy (plus the Grandest Game trilogy). Obviously he’s a hugely successful billionaire cowboy with a southern drawl.

so no negative implications but I always like to know the namesakes!

Aubrey is a girls name more so than boys I think

AccidentalPrawnYouFool · 07/08/2025 09:25

When I was pregnant I wanted to call my second child all sorts of wild names. Thankfully vetoed by DH and now she has a normal name that everyone can spell and when she’s a big hotshot lawyer wont be silly. I think hormones have a lot to answer for here I do get it but they have to have this name forever!
I do like Ottilie from your list but with Florence rather than Honey, to much EEE endings.
Aubrey could be mistaken for Audrey especially with autocorrect.
Sorry I don’t like any of your boys names but I really struggled with boys names. Thankfully had two girls!

AccidentalPrawnYouFool · 07/08/2025 09:26

Actually I like the middle names for your boys names, Oliver and Jude. Jude Oliver? Oliver Jude?

justaddittothelist · 07/08/2025 09:26

I like Rhett, sorry not keen on the rest

Twentytwotwelve · 07/08/2025 09:29

Also just a little statistic here to help.

Aubrey is way more popular as a girls name than a boys name:

So I wouldn’t let that put you off.

Aubrey may well be a girl's name in the US but if you are in the UK, it's definitely a boy's name here.

My very stuffy geography teacher was called Aubrey, 35 years ago

Cynic17 · 07/08/2025 09:31

Aubrey is male.
Audrey is female.

Rhett makes me think of the syndrome. Aubrey is a boy’s name. I think of the artist Aubrey Beardsley.

Honestly I’d combine your middle name choices and go for Jude Oliver for a boy. Audrey Florence for a girl.

Eenameenadeeka · 07/08/2025 09:36

I like Atlas and Aubrey. LOVE Florence.

MelonUsk · 07/08/2025 09:37

Aubrey is a boys name

Nash will be known as Gnasher. Gnash your teeth. Please don’t do this
