Feminine Sounding Boys Names

I am a ‘frilly’ name person, I mostly like three syllable names and two middle names to match mine and DH’s. I have such an easier time with girls names, my girls list is close to a hundred names I would use but it’s so hard to find boys names I even like.

Lots of people on here seem to hate the boys names I like, calling them ‘wet’ or ‘feminine’ (as an insult?!) and assuming they’re going to get bullied- in my experience that isn’t true but is besides the point. If anyone has any names they like (or hate!) for boys that fit that criteria I would really appreciate hearing them.

It’s okay, I don’t mind though I’m curious what they bring to mind. I promise not to be offended, my name draws a lot of attention but always positive so I’m curious. If these stand out so would all of our names, a little James or Hugo just wouldn’t fit in.

I actually really love Campbell too! Malcolm was my dear grandfather’s name and is now a family middle name ❤️

I knew an Alasdair growing up and I thought it was lovely but he hated the spelling and only ever went by Ali :( I think they all sound quite soft, with the exception of Iain- beautiful names though.

Yes exactly like that. The British English pronunciation is Lucy-un but I think the Loosh-un pronunciation is more US English. But then that’s how I’d say St Lucia as in the Caribbean Island. It’s nice either way imo.

I love Constantine and Augustine but I wasn't brave enough to use them. I also considered Ambrose but everyone I mentioned it to said it was too girly and I should choose a strong masculine name instead 😥Leander is a lovely name.

It's certainly possible for adult men to accommodate fey given names such as Aubrey, Ambrose or Dorian. I wouldn't worry too much. They'll either go with it and be fey or choose a 'butch' nickname instead.

I love most of these names (except Clarence, sorry to any Clarences) but also have a bit of a thing for Russian names such as Anatoly, Nikolai.

I completely relate — I’ve always found girls’ names so much easier too! I also lean towards elegant, classic-sounding boys’ names with a slightly romantic or old-world feel. From your list, I especially love Leander and Ambrose — both feel refined and a bit poetic.

I love Gabriel and know many lovely Gabriel's of varying ages. Some use the shortened version Gabe and some dont.
I also love Lucien. There's an actor called Lucien Laviscount. He absolutely pulls off his name. What a handsome young man!
Think the various pronunciations of it are also just personal preference think his is pronounced "lu-shen".

What does your DP think? I find with boys names it really helps to have a male opinion on whether something is likely to be teased for being “wet” or “feminine” - although I know any potential teasing wouldn’t be anything like it was 30/40 years ago, especially with softer sounding names that are in the Top 100 now like Gabriel and Rowan.

Other softer sounding (or romantic vibe as I call them) names that I like: Emrys (my fave), Maxim, Laurence (Laurie), Corin/Orin (Ori), Heath, Tristan, Owen, Michael, Elio, Nathaniel, Luca, Matteo (Teo), Orlando, Ivo, Sylvian, Evan/Evander.
