We’re struggling. Love Morris! We like “posh” boy names. But our friends have used many of the names we love.

thoughts?

I love Morris, and Ralph.

I knew a lovely Morris when my children were young.

I can't get over Ralph and the penis reference in Forever. I'm sure it's been forgotten since but it still makes me snort like a pathetic 12 year old.

Dandelionsand4leafclover · 05/07/2025 08:58

Sorry OP but I really don't like it.

HowDoYouSolveAProblemLikeMyRear · 05/07/2025 09:01

I love it when spelled "Maurice".

angelinawasrobbed · 05/07/2025 09:01

How about Morrissey?

romdowa · 05/07/2025 09:03

I certainly wouldn't consider maurice or morris as posh names .

Namechangedforspooky · 05/07/2025 09:15

I’m going against the grain here but I quite like it!
And as pps have said, it’s a legit first name.
Less fuddy duddy than Maurice IMO

Smoothwater · 05/07/2025 09:17

I know a young Morris. I like it!

HeCharters · 05/07/2025 09:18

@angelinawasrobbed It's a surname and too connected with an individual. One strictly for fans of The Smiths. It would be like calling a baby Sting or Bono.

DisplayPurposesOnly · 05/07/2025 09:26

Morris isn't a 'posh boy' name.

Bridport · 05/07/2025 09:33

Makes me think of Mr Morris who wanted to marry Nice Grandma in Friday Night Dinner.
He was so appalling Nice Grandma pretended to die on her wedding day.

"Have you soiled yourself?"

user2848502016 · 05/07/2025 09:34

I like it. Morris as a spelling for a first name (rather than Maurice) is quite common in Wales.

I don’t really Maurice because it can be pronounced Maurice or Morris - same as Louis and Lewis, the kid would spend his life correcting people.

MonetsLilac · 05/07/2025 09:41

You want posh?
Montague
Algernon
Cedric
Eustace
Hugo
plus I remember seeing a very posh bloke on "Location, Location, Location" called Hereward.
Go for it 😁

Bridport · 05/07/2025 09:48

Or Peregrine.

HeCharters · 05/07/2025 09:48

@MonetsLilac , Hugo is not posh. It might have been in the past.

Ok. Opinions differ.

Bridport · 05/07/2025 09:48

Or Peregrine.

That's a great posh name!

HeCharters · 05/07/2025 10:03

@MonetsLilac it's in the top 50 boys' names. They won't all be posh.

Ok. Fine. This is just a light-hearted name suggestion thread. I'm not here for an argument.

MonetsLilac · 05/07/2025 10:06

Anyway, OP - good luck! I'm off now because I am not up for any silly argy bargy.
Go for Morris if you like it!

Bridport · 05/07/2025 10:07

MonetsLilac is quite posh though 😉

Whatever posh is.

Mylovelygreendress · 05/07/2025 10:10

I was at school with a boy called Morris . His father was also Morris so son was known as Morris Minor !

NoWomanNoBuy · 05/07/2025 10:13

Heh @Mylovelygreendress that's cute.

Wavescrashingonthebeach · 05/07/2025 10:14

Sorry i think its awful.

Its shorthand round here for Morris Dancing (the modern version teenage girls do)

Only other connections I can immediately think of is the supermarket Morrisons

Nottodaty · 05/07/2025 10:25

I know 2 - one spelt Maurice and is 50 years old & another 15 year old spelt Morris.

Both lovely & somehow just suit the name!

Sandmaennchen · 05/07/2025 15:47

Maurice is much nicer!
