We’re struggling. Love Morris! We like “posh” boy names. But our friends have used many of the names we love.

thoughts?

Morris makes me think of Morrisons, but I assume you’d spell the name Maurice? Personally I’m not keen but I’ve heard so many unusual names lately I actually think it’s fine!

ByLilacMember · 04/07/2025 21:16

I really like it! Makes for a cool kid

Inthesmallclouds · 04/07/2025 21:55

Not good, it’s pretty terrible

DisforDarkChocolate · 04/07/2025 21:56

I love Morris, and Ralph.

I knew a lovely Morris when my children were young.

CurlyhairedAssassin · 04/07/2025 22:00

Since working in a primary school I've got used to seeing all sorts of names, and the kids kind of end up suiting them. Morris as the spelling I just think of as a mis-spelling of Norris as in Norris McWhirter or Maurice.

Will the short name be Mo?

NormasArse · 04/07/2025 22:00

My grandad was Maurice. He was the loveliest man, and was actually quite ‘posh’. He’d be 104 if he was still alive now.

Ikeameatballs · 04/07/2025 22:03

I don’t like it but that really doesn’t matter, it’s your child.

I do like:

Lionel
Vaughan
Rocco

Chasingsquirrels · 04/07/2025 22:06

My grandad was Morris (spelt like that, after his mother's maiden name I believe).
He was born around 1910.

Personally I don't like it.

I see what you did there 😉

tinyspiny · 04/07/2025 22:29

My car is called Maurice , but pronounced like the French do but I wouldn’t use it for a human and Morris is worse .

HeCharters · 04/07/2025 22:34

@tinyspiny , your attitude is a bit chevalier.

AlicePottery · 04/07/2025 22:39

Whoah, slow down Maurice!

pyjamadays · 04/07/2025 22:40

My grandad was called Morris and he’d be 107 if he was still alive, so it’s definitely been a name for a while… not sure why people are claiming it’s only a surname?! Maybe it’s due a revival!

Morris is an 85-year-old retired orthodontist from Stanmore.

crazeekat · 04/07/2025 22:42

Morris is awful

KindCompassion · 04/07/2025 23:04

Hi, would you mind deleting this thread please? Sorry for the strange request! Hopefully you already have enough opinions.
My friend has a baby called Morris who has just been diagnosed with cancer. She was previously very anxious about having chosen this name. I’d really hate for her to read some of these replies when she’s up late at night with him - I can’t imagine she’d feel good about what others have said of the name.
Sorry for the strange imposition. I’m sure you’ll choose a lovely name for your son x

I typed above about my grandad Mortis, and said he was born around 1910.
On checking, it was 1918, which would make him 107.
Yours didnt live in Northwich by any chance?

FlatErica · 05/07/2025 08:51

Your name is Morris Moss is it not?

NoWomanNoBuy · 05/07/2025 08:55

I like it a lot but I like it spelled Maurice.
