Kaia or Willa?

Willa has entered our short list of girl names ( due in 1 week with a surprise !)

Kaia Summer

Willa Summer

Kaia Autumn

Willa Autumn

I think I like Summer better for the middle name but baby will be born in autumn on our side of the world, i obviously also like Autumn and maybe it’s more meaningful to use that but I’m not sure?

I'm guessing that you are not in the UK, @mathanxiety , and your comment about bullying is uncalled for and irrelevant.

There's a lot of flagrant rudeness and nastiness on this thread. It's clear that it is tolerated or even excused. It's also clear that bullying and disrespectful speech by children amongst each other are normalised - hence the confident predictions of names a child named Willa wound definitely be called.

You don't have to be personally in the UK to know about the bullying problem. I have many relatives and friends there and we talk about our lives frequently.

Tolerance and excuses for bullying have an effect in wider society.

I know quite a few Willas and nobody ever says anything like that to them.

It's quite possible that people in other parts of the world are not as rude as the Brits seem to be.

Then it would seem foolish to come on here and ask their opinion, n'est pas?

Freya2456 · 26/05/2025 08:12

Thank you! I guess summer is just a name I have loved for years. I would totally go with winter but my sons middle name is snow ( which was actually my grandpas name) so it’s a bit too matchy for me

Willa is quite a smart name in the UK.

Freya2456 · 26/05/2025 08:19

Isn’t William a common name in England…? What’s the difference between thinking Willa would get “Willie” and William not getting that ,? I don’t get it

Not if you didn’t realize this place would be full of Britt’s 😂🤦🏼‍♀️

Yes, good point actually! Nobody says that when people call their son William.

I still don't find Willa an attractive name though, sorry. How about Mila?

Kaia is my favourite of your choices. How are you pronouncing it?

PorgyandBess · 26/05/2025 09:03

Both dreadful and the addition of Summer/Autumn makes them even more dreadful, if that were possible.

If you simply google the name you will see Willa is definitely not made up 😂 and yeah we are on the opposite side of the world to England, this post is unfortunately confirming my thought that English people are extremely rude 😂

Some of us are, most aren't. Unfortunately there seems to be a glut of rude people on MN and very English centric.
Willa is a name, I can think of quite a few, none of them English, probably explains some of the above comments, but our future king is William and that doesn't seem to be an issue 🙄
Kaia looks pretty,I like Autumn and Summer. Prefer Summer, but that's just ny preference because I love it as a season. Not sure it matters if the birthdate matches the name.

dontforgetme · 26/05/2025 09:32

Kaia is gorgeous. I’ve loved the name ever since I read Where The Crawdads Sing, I also loved the film. Although if I remember right it’s spelt Kya in the book. If I had another girl right now it would be the name I chose!

Kaia Summer gets my vote.

RabbitsRock · 26/05/2025 09:35

I don’t like either - sorry OP!

KayEmAy · 27/05/2025 18:16

Kaia Summer!

It's 'N'est ce pas'.

I doubt the OP could have anticipated the gobsmacking levels of ignorance, rudeness, and outright hostility she has encountered here.

The thread has surpassed the worst I've seen in over fifteen years on MN.

Willa summer ever come? 😂

Those opinions were silly, and the behaviour that is seen as normal by some people here in response to names is stupid and rude.

No wonder there is a massive bullying problem in British schools.

Sounds like you are the one who’s been bullying

JohnnyLuLus · 28/05/2025 00:55

Willa is a beautiful name.

cardboardvillage · 28/05/2025 04:47

That can't be right, surely! It's looking pretty tame compared to most on the politics section.

Willa is quite a smart name in the UK (as in, posh). Kaia isn't. The middle names of autumn and summer are in my opinion a bit naff but that's entirely my opinion OP. They just have an air of teen romance novels set in California which might be the look you are going for anyway.

I always think personally that if you end the first name in an "a" then you should end the last name in a constanant (or sounds like one). So the Summer middle name would be out. KaiA SummA, WillA SummA (if you see what I mean 🤣). They sound too alike. Or as if they are a hyphenated first name.

Also I personally (bit weird this one) don't like a two syllable first name and a two syllable second name as I think it sounds a bit odd. I have a 3 syllable first name and one syllable maiden name which I though was a good balance (ruined by getting married to someone with a 3 syllable surname so now my name is far too long 😆)

I appreciate these are extremely picky points but I'm just saying what I thought in my own mind when I was naming my own children so they are just very much my own views and thought processes. You just name your kid whatever you like best!

DeSoleil · 28/05/2025 07:55

Kaia is a sibling for the likes of Chardonnay and Bianca. Especially with Summer or Autumn as a middle name. Mumsnet don’t like the use of the word Ch@v, but that’’s the image one gets of a Kaia.

Willa as already mentioned will see the child being teased at school.

Both are harsh sounding names.
