All I can think of is the Howell Bennett film from the 1970s when he had a penis transplant, which he called Percy. 😳. Apart from that, it’s a truly awful name for a child, or anyone of any age.

Rummly · 30/04/2025 23:55

I don’t find it “horrific” or “awful”, just comical really.

I picture Percy as being a posh, elderly, rather hapless man. The sort of character played by Terry-Thomas.

Peaceandquietandacuppa · 30/04/2025 23:58

No sorry, not for me - Percy Pig, Percy Jackson, Percy the Park Keeper. It sounds very posh. Which if that’s what you’re going for, crack on! But if you’re not, it just sounds odd.

I never knew it was a transplant. As I mentioned above, we talked about the film at school, but I didn't know it was that old and I thought he just called his own dick Percy. We used to say to boys who needed the toilet during lessons things like "oh is Percy getting restless?".

Percy Pig
Percy Sugden from Coronation Street

Years ago when my kids were little , late teens now , I remember talking to a Mum in Tesco , little boy in the trolley and I asked his name … Percy …
I wanted to laugh coz I honestly thought she was having me on .
Back then the old man names hadn’t made a come back yet . It was way too soon for Percy

and now I still think we ain’t ready for the comeback of Percy it’s dreadful .

It’s quite popular in my neck of the words - but so is Crispin. 😫

StScholastica · 01/05/2025 08:27

Percy Filth, euphemism for "rumpy pumpy" but I'm older so this association might be dying out.

Dahlia1234 · 01/05/2025 08:55

No I'm sorry, it's awful. Some of the 'older' names I don't mind, but Percy is just grim!

comfyshoes2022 · 01/05/2025 09:05

I kind of like it.

Yeah, he's going to be known as Percy Pig. Fingers crossed he isn't fat.

It’s absolutely awful but I would actually say something like this to them. If that poor boy struggles with his weight he will be teased unmercifully.

I think it's cute and wouldn't link it to Percy Pig. Mumsnet forgets that most people do not shop at M & S.

No but they all know about it - I have friends in Singapore, Australia and Sweden who all want me to bring these over for them… most people know Percy Pig!

PurpleChrayn · 01/05/2025 18:22

I love it.

I love it. But just couldn't.
However, it's a great nickname for Persephone.

I know a lovely spaniel named Persephone/nn Percy!!
