I want to say I love the name. It does remind me of the train but it’s never put people off using Thomas.

secondly you don’t have the right to comment on someone else’s name. This is why so people keep baby names secret until the baby is here and quite rightly so.

SorcererGaheris · 30/04/2025 13:19

I like Percy.

Bibbitybobbitybo · 30/04/2025 13:53

I know a Percy and was mixed to begin but it's grown on me. I'd go for a longer version to give options.

MrsSunshine2b · 30/04/2025 13:53

I think it's cute and wouldn't link it to Percy Pig. Mumsnet forgets that most people do not shop at M & S.

SirChenjins · 30/04/2025 13:55

Willy/todger
Pig

Definitely a no from me

BethDuttonYeHaw · 30/04/2025 13:59

I don’t like it

dollyblue01 · 30/04/2025 14:00

I love it, I know a little boy who’s now three and his name really suits him.

ginasevern · 30/04/2025 14:07

Ten years ago people would've been spitting their coffee out at the idea of Wilfred, Stanley or Archie. So as Percy is very much in that category I don't see the difference (other than the pig reference).

Topseyt123 · 30/04/2025 14:12

Percy Pig, unfortunately. And I do like those sweets, when I can get the vegetarian ones.

Also, when I was growing up little boys often called their willies Percy. 🙄🤣

So for me it's an M & S sweet, or a little boy's willy.

Blueplu · 30/04/2025 15:02

It’s a great name for a pet/horse that etc

but for a kid I find it wet and twee

PumpkinScarf · 30/04/2025 15:04

I think it’s lovely actually but my first thought was Percy pig.

restbite · 30/04/2025 15:04

ok for a cat

CarpetKnees · 30/04/2025 15:40

er..... this entire topic is precisely so that people can garner other people's opinions on their choice of name....

Katiesaidthat · 30/04/2025 15:47

Awful name, very pretentious.

LadyQuackBeth · 30/04/2025 19:19

I think it's really wet, but that's regional I think. There seems to be a lot of Ruperts and Walters in other areas, so these sort of names are having a bit of a moment. It will depend on where they live, I think, but not the end of the world.

IfYouPutASausageInItItsNotAViennetta · 30/04/2025 19:33

Not to derail, but it just reminds me of the old joke:

A white horse goes into a pub and the barmaid says "That's a coincidence - we have a whisky named after you that we sell here!"

The horse exclaims in surprise "You have a whisky called Percy?!?!"

theunbreakablecleopatrajones · 30/04/2025 19:56

No

and what if he goes through a chubby patch 😱

I literally do have a right to do that. There is no law against it and it doesn’t impede any human rights!!!

Maybe say, “It’s not very nice to say that.” But I have freedom of speech and therefore the right to comment on anyone’s name!

Also incase you haven’t realised, this is an anonymous forum online. It is not as though I am shouting at them that I hate the name.

Used to be a Barry Humphries term for a pee: 'Point Percy at the Porcelain'
So please not for all sorts of reasons.

Rockmehardplace · 30/04/2025 22:58

Absolutely horrific.

KnickerlessParsons · 30/04/2025 23:33

Point Percy at the porcelain is what comes to mind for me.

NPET · 30/04/2025 23:41

Not just Percy Pigs but I can remember from school that there was a film in which the lead character's dick was called Percy!

weirdwalking · 30/04/2025 23:42

Round this way I’ve heard blokes say they are going to ‘point Percy at the porcelain’ when going for a pee… so it’s a no from me!

RedRosesPinkLilies · 30/04/2025 23:45

No
Just opening the child up to bullying at school
Just because it’s different, doesn’t mean it’s a good choice

That was a line we used to joke about at school. I assumed it came from the film I mentioned.
