Well it's another name for a willy so for that reason I think it's a bit cruel to inflict it on a child. It is a sweet name though.

Indeed. As in when blokes say "I'm just going to point Percy at the porcelain'.

I think of my lovely old neighbour many years ago and the Scarlet Pimpernel! Not really seen much of Percy Pig chocolate. Percy short for Percival sounds like a fine name to me although judging by the thread it sounds like the chocolate is famous!

ToBeOrNotToBee · 28/04/2025 22:33

I love it. But just couldn't.
However, it's a great nickname for Persephone.

Tortielady · 28/04/2025 22:33

Pros: Percy Shelley (cool poet) and Percy Sledge (cool singer)

Cons:

Weasley
Lord
Pig
Sugden
Todger

And how long would it be before poor little Percy was Pervy at school?

So on balance: Noooooo!!!!

This.

I mean, the popularity of Percy Pig ought to put people off, but giving a child a nick name for a penis is beyond cruel.

Yes. One of my older relatives used to say to his son “Point Percy at the porcelain”.

Sesma · 29/04/2025 06:18

I wouldn't because it's a M and S brand name.

CeciliaMars · 29/04/2025 06:28

Pig and posh come to mind unfortunately…

onwardsup4 · 29/04/2025 06:32

First thing I think of is Thomas the tank engine, I don’t think it’s a particularly nice name

UpsideDownChairs · 29/04/2025 06:47

I have never outside of MN heard anyone call their penis 'Percy'. Richard, John (although that one's more often the actual toilet than the penis), any one of 100 pet names.

Never Percy. Frankly, you can create bad associations for any name at all if you want to.

There's plenty of names I dislike, but the person wearing the name makes it their own - I've known a number of absolutely lovely Ruperts for example.

I think you shouldn't comment on family members names personally (except in private, and on the understanding that if you do, you're being mean-spirited)

TimeForTeaAndToast · 29/04/2025 07:34

I wouldn't. Have you heard the saying, "Pointing Percy at the porcelain"?

TrinityClover · 29/04/2025 07:44

pilates · 28/04/2025 22:08

Isn’t it another name for a todger?

Yes. ‘point Percy at the Pot’ a common phrase round here.

Irrespective of that it’s an awful wet name.

TrinityClover · 29/04/2025 07:45

@TimeForTeaAndToastYou beat me to it!!!

RobertaFirmino · 29/04/2025 22:27

It's horrible. Really not nice.

IDipYouDipWeDip · 28/04/2025 21:57

I think it’s awful, truly awful. I can’t imagine looking at your beautiful newborn and thinking ‘yes, he’s definitely a Percy’.

I'm holding my lovely newborn, and I actually think he would suit Percy.

Arlingtonchase · 30/04/2025 10:31

No. I know a man who says "Just off to point Percy at the porcelain!" when he’s going for a pee…

Happyinarcon · 30/04/2025 11:02

I don’t want to be nasty about it, but I grew up thinking of it as a joke name. I always assume every zoo has a penguin called Percy. It would be difficult for someone to make this name work

I doubt he would.

CritterPants · 30/04/2025 11:15

I know a Perseus who goes by Percy. He is a smart and sporty 10 year old who totally carries it off. As with any name, it depends on the person who has it! To me Percy has a similar “cheeky chappie” feel to Alfie and Bertie.

user1492757084 · 30/04/2025 12:15

Percy seems weak of character - for no real reason.

MrsSkylerWhite · 30/04/2025 12:16

Sorry, no. Lord Percy, point Percy at the porcelain, etc.

Shoppingtoday · 30/04/2025 12:17

Reeeeeaaaallly bad.

ExquisiteSocialSkills · 30/04/2025 12:30

Lord Percy.

uncomfortablydumb60 · 30/04/2025 12:35

It’s a massive No from me
