Parma violets, not Palma

Sorry but my immediate thought was Palma Violet.

Also I don’t think her initials of PEW was a great decision.

Palma Violet?

Palma Violet?

Yes as in Parma Violets - the sweets?

I can imagine her being called Palma Violet.

Honestly I wish I never made that comment now.

What's wrong with PEW? As a word, it just means a wooden bench - nothing embarrassing.

Or are you thinking of Pepe le Pew?!

PEW sounds like poo.

DalzielOrNoDalzielAndDontPascoe · 13/03/2025 09:32

ShhhhhItsASurprise · 13/03/2025 09:08

Or Cleethorps (if following the “it’s our favourite place” trend).

I wonder when we'll see lots of threads about parents-to-be who are set on calling new babies Scunthorpe or Lightwater in honour of their very favourite place in the world, and asking what nicknames could go with them?

forthistimeonly · 13/03/2025 09:42

I like it.
Congratulations to them.
I have friends with now adult children who named them after a special place/where they were conceived:
India, Sofia, Brontë, Sennen (cove) Siena, Hudson, Lucca.
The now young adults don't really care about how they got their names, (and none dislike their names) apart from Sofia (32) who loves the fact that she was named after the place she was conceived and happily tells people.

Ah, I suppose - maybe. Although nobody ever thinks you're being offered a turd (or the opportunity to produce one) when somebody jovially invites you to 'take a pew'!

You'd have to be a bit careful where in the world you tried to conceive, though - Sofia's siblings Ouagadougou and Ljubljana might not thank you! Especially if the former was given the nickname Pineapple at school Grin

Jade520 · 13/03/2025 10:11

All anyone will think is Palma Mallorca and that it must have been where she was conceived. It's not a name and sounds ridiculous. Paloma would have been a really good nod to it and a proper name.

AnAlpacaForChristmasPleaseSanta · 13/03/2025 14:10

Oh gosh is that the actual name they've chosen?
I saw it written on a news site yesterday but assumed it was Paloma and whoever had written the headline had accidentally left the O out 😳.

WowIlikereallyhateyou · 13/03/2025 14:16

Nope,too try hard.

MyGardenHasGreatTits · 13/03/2025 14:19

Don’t love it but don’t hate it. It’s quite pretty.

What do people mean by ‘too try hard’?

Moonlightdust · 13/03/2025 09:32

PEW sounds like poo.

No, it doesn’t.

LeopardsANeutral · 13/03/2025 14:21

I wouldn’t use it myself but I really like it. I do like more out there names.

Notsupposedtohappen · 13/03/2025 14:24

I think it’s fine. It’s a tree name, no different to Holly or Rowan, or many other plant names - eg, Rosa.

PisforPeter · 13/03/2025 14:39

I misread initially and thought it was Pamela Grin

coxesorangepippin · 13/03/2025 14:39

I actually like it

Awful

BreatheAndFocus · 13/03/2025 15:13

Not terrible, but doesn’t sound nice or look nice written down. I just keep thinking of Patsy Palmer, or that it sounds like a thief (“Watch your keys - he’s a real palmer!). It also sounds bad with Wright - like you’re going to slap someone: palm ‘er right!

They like it though and it’s far from the worst of names.

BlueBatsAndOranges · 13/03/2025 15:20

🤣😆🤣

sprigatito · 13/03/2025 15:21

It's not awful. It's better than Paula or Alma. That's the best I can say about it.

CaptBirdsEar · 13/03/2025 15:27

the name makes me hungry thinking of chicken parmigiana

CaptBirdsEar · 13/03/2025 15:44

Initials PEW

Trying too hard to be different, unique, stand out from the crowd.
