Sorry but my immediate thought was Palma Violet.

Also I don’t think her initials of PEW was a great decision.

It is parma violet.

It is parma violet.

Yes I know but I bet that’s what she gets called.

Doesn’t sound too out there. What’s your concern? Do you see these people a lot? Do you think your children will bully them for their name? If so, maybe take a look at your parenting style. Personally I could not really give toss about what some random people named their child. Unless you’ve just started this thread for people to pile on and make you feel better about whatever you’ve called your children?

Well you do because you clicked on the thread after seeing the thread title, then instead of leaving you left a comment 🤷‍♀️

I don’t particularly like it but it could be worse I suppose, at least it’s a bit different.

Parma ham

My immediate thought too.

DisforDarkChocolate · 12/03/2025 21:37

Fecking ridiculous.

DemBonesDemBones · 12/03/2025 21:37

Know it's spelt differently but I immediately thought ham.

TrainGame · 12/03/2025 21:40

Parma ham. Parmesan cheese. Parma violets.

I don’t think I hear the ‘L’ so phonetically it’s like all these foods.

Oh well. Each to their own and all that.

Me too!! And started salivating at the thought of a slice. So yummy!

MrsJoanDanvers · 12/03/2025 22:02

If she’s named after the capital of Mallorca, it would definitely be Pal-ma. But she’ll get misnamed a lot! Pretty name.

whitenoisewave · 12/03/2025 22:09

We had a Palma in dd's class. I thought it was Parma for a while and thought poor girl but that was before I saw her painting on the wall with Palma written on it and then it clicked lol. Not my cup of tea though I'm afraid.

Nellsbell · 12/03/2025 22:14

It made me think of the airport. Also close to Pamela. But each to your own. Friends with unusual baby names have been growers I find.

No, I give a toss about people who make threads about others for their choice of name. Having friends and colleagues who have unusual names (for the UK) and get flack for it makes me sad.

Pancakeflipper · 12/03/2025 22:25

Palma Wright ?

Errr no....

HomeBodyClub · 12/03/2025 22:26

I can imagine how awful it sounds in his strong Essex accent.

I know a family of about 20 people called PALMER; known them for decades, and to me it sounds like that.. PALMER, the surname. Not the Spanish island.

Gonna be a cute af child though. Mark is handsome, and Michelle is GORGEOUS! 😍

JessyCarr · 12/03/2025 23:52

I’ve heard a lot worse. And it’s an actual name, though often in Spanish culture it’s associated with being born on Palm Sunday (which she wasn’t - it’s April 13 this year). Palm trees are nice and the couple apparently love (Palma de) Mallorca, so good associations for them.

Anyway, she is a longed-for first child after 10 years of marriage, so her arrival is lovely news.

HundredMilesAnHour · 12/03/2025 19:10

Just no.

It’s almost as bad as Brooklyn (and look what a complete plant he’s turned out to be).

If planets will align she’ll marry someone called Palmer and be known as Palma Palmer forever.

Or even several in her lifetime if, when she grows up, she turns out to be addicted to love.

DalzielOrNoDalzielAndDontPascoe · 13/03/2025 00:18

It'll be appropriate if she marries a Welsh man with a surname beginning with Ll, but they settle in central London.

DalzielOrNoDalzielAndDontPascoe · 13/03/2025 00:20

Palma Wright does sound a bit like a 'heavily refreshed' Glaswegian who is determined to win an argument in a pub.

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 13/03/2025 08:12

Beautiful name

Manchesterbythesea · 13/03/2025 08:14

Bit of a silly name.

voubledision · 13/03/2025 08:21

Ridiculous!

What's wrong with PEW? As a word, it just means a wooden bench - nothing embarrassing.

Or are you thinking of Pepe le Pew?!

ThePinkPowerRangers · 12/03/2025 21:10

It will be soon! I predict an influx of baby Palmas soon.

Or Cleethorps (if following the “it’s our favourite place” trend).
