Thinking something like Lara Margot

I personally don’t know anybody (including babies) named Lara - I was wondering how popular it is to the general public? I don’t want to call her it thinking it’s uncommon just for her to be the 5th Lara in her class!!

Love it!

I think it's a lovely name.

It's not common but 4 letter L girl names seem to be very popular still, she might be the only Lara but with a Lily, Lyra, Lana friendset if that matters to you. She also might get Lana by mistake quite a bit.

MyrtleLion · 08/03/2025 21:50

It's lovely, you may want to consider Lyra as a similar name (from Philip Pullman).

loropianalover · 08/03/2025 21:50

I like it, but prefer Clara or Lorna.

I know three toddler/ reception age Lyra's- I wouldn't recommend if you are looking for something unique. 😂

It’s my name and I love it. Uncommon but also uncomplicated. I get called Laura a lot, that’s the only downside. I think I’ve met 2 others in my life.

My friends 15yr old is Lara and I love it. Easy to spell, pronounce and just a lovely name.

Personally don't like Margot. I always read it as Maggot 😬
Also don't like Lyra as think of Lycra.

I love it! I only know one in her early 20s, no little ones. It’s a gorgeous name 😊

MirandaBlu · 08/03/2025 21:56

I like it. I feel like people may have treated it as an updated version of the classic Laura, and so it became very popular in the 2010s and into the 2020s. But Lara also makes sense as a version of Laura used in Russian, German,French, Italian, Spanish, Dutch, Portuguese, Slovenian, and Croatian..

I was called it because of the song Lara’s theme in Dr Zhivago, which was written by a Russian.

Neolara · 08/03/2025 22:02

I have a Lara in her early 20s. I only know of 1 other Lara.

FlatWhite78 · 08/03/2025 22:03

Love it! Classy & strong. DD is 20 and even in her massive school year group of 200 pupils there was only one Lara.

bzarda · 08/03/2025 22:04

Lara is simple and pretty, I only know one. My 2 year old knows lots of Margots though.

I’m not too bothered about popularity of her middle name particularly, as she won’t be going by that in every day life. I’m just more looking for a name that I find pretty and that I think compliments whatever first name we go for :)

I love both names, but wouldn't put them together because they have the same stressed vowel sound on the first syllable. I may be oversensitive to this because my name does the same!

EmiliaRuusuvuori · 08/03/2025 22:07

It's lovely, I went to school with one.
She would be in her early fifties now.

boringingoring · 08/03/2025 22:08

Also it makes me think of Mar-a-lago, sorry!

Both beautiful names individually though.

Hildasstageshow · 08/03/2025 22:12

Lara is lovely. Makes me think of Dr Zhivago.

Crikeyalmighty · 08/03/2025 22:14

Was going to call my Tom it if he was a girl- which he wasn't!! Lovely name.

pudha · 08/03/2025 22:25

I prefer Lila, looks and sounds prettier to me. But love Margot as a middle name.

Sassybooklover · 08/03/2025 22:27

It's not a name I have heard often, and I've worked in Infant/First/Junior schools for 13 years! Currently there is a Lara in a Year 3 class at the First school I work at. It's not that common.
