Thinking something like Lara Margot

I personally don’t know anybody (including babies) named Lara - I was wondering how popular it is to the general public? I don’t want to call her it thinking it’s uncommon just for her to be the 5th Lara in her class!!

It’s only relatively recently entered the top 100 names, think it’s 92. So not overly used at all, but not so unusual that people are unfamiliar with it.

I think it’s a very lovely name.

GiddyCrab · 08/03/2025 22:33

I knew one who would be in her 50s now.
I prefer Laura.

BoleynMemories13 · 09/03/2025 00:35

Lara is beautiful. Much nicer than Lyra, which is very trendy right now.

I do know a few people called Lara but they're spread out through the ages:- one in their 20s, one around 18, another about 12 and another who is 5. She definitely won't be one of 5 in a class because that is an urban myth which doesn't even happen with the most popular names any more. People choose from such a wide pool of names now. The days of half a year group being called Sarah or Michael are gone.

It is a re-entry though, so it's not like it's ultra modern or a newish fad which has only just broke into the top 100 for the first time. Lara has been in and out of the top 100 several times since the early 00s I think. It's usually somewhere between 75-150 it I think, so never overly popular but not rare either. The perfect mix probably.

I love Lara. Is a lovely easy to spell and sound name.
It's not an old name just a modern short name.
Beautiful 🤩

LiquoriceAllsorts2 · 09/03/2025 07:54

I like it.

Imabitbusyatthemoment · 09/03/2025 07:58

I know a 13 year old Lara. Lovely girl. Lovely name.

Well. I take a class regularly that has five Freyas, and another that has six Issies.
The funniest has to be the Kaya, Taya, Maya, Bajaya, Gaia, Anaya, class.

Ah I didn’t realise it was a re-entry!

It was around 115 when I used it for my one, in the mid 2010’s. I’ve loosely tracked it’s use ever since 😊

CheshireCat1 · 09/03/2025 10:45

I love Lara as a name, my favourite book and film is Dr Zhivago, Lara’s Theme is also lovely.

TheBackupPlan · 09/03/2025 10:51

I know 2 little girls called Lara, one is 3, the other is 6 months. My friend is a teacher and had 3 Margot’s in her class last year.

Chunkilumptious · 09/03/2025 11:23

Really like it

prettyneededchill · 09/03/2025 11:25

Beautiful name but it is steadily moving up the name charts. We had one in our NCT group two years ago.

Margot is a bit overused though.

WithASpider · 09/03/2025 12:37

I love Lara! DS was going to be Lara Faith so I'm a bit biased.

Not sure about Margot with it, like a pp said - sounds like mar-a-lago.

Emanwenym · 09/03/2025 18:47

It's OK but I prefer Laura. Lyra and Clara (I dislike both names) are very popular so Lara doesn't really stand out. Margot is awful.

Orphlids · 09/03/2025 20:25

Ah, I really love Lara. Beautiful, elegant, and conjures up images of a well-educated and intelligent woman. You might find you get a few people singing Lara’s theme at you, but that is surely a positive! I love the Dr Zhivago association: an iconic character who inspired such adoration.

Margot is great too - very chic.

ChloeCannotCanCan · 09/03/2025 20:28

Pretty name, but I think Laura is even lovelier

Purplecatshopaholic · 09/03/2025 20:29

Love it.

Ihavenoclu · 09/03/2025 20:31

I really like Lara, my friend's daughter is called it and she is a treasure (she is in secondary).

CorvusPurpureus · 09/03/2025 20:37

I teach in the ME - there's at least one Lara in every class. It's my dd1's bff's name.

I think it's classic, works across just about every country & culture, & is simultaneously cute on a baby & sensible for a future world leader.

My only caveat would be that it's a tiny bit dull & safe. I'd give her a more exciting middle name or be prepared for some funky nicknames - dd1's mate is currently something along the lines of Lollapaloo, apparently, to distinguish her from every other Lara! They're both 19.

JesusFuckingChristAmerica · 09/03/2025 22:24

It's lovely op.
I don't love Margot though.

Some alternative suggestions:

Lara Violet
Lara Pearl
Lara Grace
Lara Eloise
Lara Elizabeth
Lara Daisy

JesusFuckingChristAmerica · 09/03/2025 22:25

Leah is also lovely.

Enough4me · 09/03/2025 22:31

I love Lara and Margot, but Lara Margot makes me think of marmalade (I think it's the sound of laramar together).

How about Lara Eliza or Lara Esme?
