Thoughts on this? Personally I'm not keen but DP likes it for our 3rd DD. Think it sounds a bit chavy tbh.

I like it, it sounds lovely. The one i know is well behaved and very polite so it has a really nice connotation for me. And just because it's a relatively new name on the scene doesn't mean it's "chavvy"

It’s not new. It’s been in America for many years and always been chavvy. Anything that’s something spelt backwards never makes it out of chavvy territory

HugoYorway · 10/03/2025 11:10

@TaggieO , never-eh would be Neverreh. Wouldn't Nevaeh be Nev-ah-eh?
Name's blimmin' awful however you say it.

@mathanxiety , most of those names are too 'american' for my taste. Only Olivia and Serena, and maybe Eva (but Eve is so much nicer), seem OK.

sel2223 · 10/03/2025 11:13

Even if I liked the sound or look of it (which I don't), as soon as I heard 'it's heaven spelled backwards' that would be an instant NOPE from me.

HugoYorway · 10/03/2025 11:18

Esra, Naomi and Lana might be her sisters Wink

kirinm · 10/03/2025 11:20

There is a neveah in my DD's class and I have to say whilst I've rolled my eyes a bit about it being heaven spelt backwards I've not really thought it was chavvy. More a bit weirdly religious.

It's a pleasant sounding name. Part of the opposition to it here is that it's American and also not middle class. I personally like it a lot more than the very MN-approved Imogen and Verity.

Alternatives:
Ava
Eva
Aveline
Evaline
Savannah
Everly
Neva
Vita
Evanna
Navy
Vera
Olivia
Livia
Vada
Jade
Nova
Serena
Hayley
Ember
Cadence
Sienna
Summer

Golly, Jeeves, ...there’s some raw work pulled at the font from time to time, is there not?

One of my favourite P. G. Wodehouse quotations. I often think of it on this board. Navy is a particularly awful name to inflict on a child.

HugoYorway · 10/03/2025 12:28

Apologies, I'd not noticed Livia, which I like, but would probably get mistaken for a variant of Olivia.

I know an Yvan. He's breton. It's a Breton form of Johannes.

FondantFancyFan · 10/03/2025 12:29

Really awful, made up name. Choose something else, plenty of lovely names around.

DoYouReally · 10/03/2025 12:52

Around the times the series Footballer's Wives was popular, I heard a women in the supermarket screaming at three kids, presumably hers, named Chardonnay, Amber and Mercedes.

The fact your question reminds me of this should be enough to reconsider the name.

Allmarbleslost · 10/03/2025 13:10

Awful

IChangedMyUsernameSoICouldVent · 10/03/2025 13:13

For the love of God, no.

JuneySunshine · 13/03/2025 10:24

Wouldn't know how to pronounce it.
Neva, like Eva, then 'eh?'

Hattie907 · 13/03/2025 10:39

MistyF · 07/03/2025 12:16

Basically Nevea. Nev-ay-a. Some say it Neeva.

I thought it was nay-va so it reminds me of navel. I also think it’s tacky tbh however it sounds.

littleluncheon · 07/03/2025 12:59

I know of a Naveya (Navy for short) which I found really cute!

Thank you for the Village People earworm!

Although someone else suggested Haven & in the UK that would be exactly like naming a child Butlins. Family holiday parks.

HugoYorway · 13/03/2025 11:43

Our 4 DC: Haven, Butlin, Pontin, and CentaParx.

Scrubberdubber · 13/03/2025 12:17

Oh boy another neveah thread 😉

Heaven backwards soooo basically hell?

Scrubberdubber · 13/03/2025 12:21

I've always thought religious words backwards were meant to be demonic? There's a whole conspiracy theory about some songs being played backwards and they say satanic things, if anyone's interested.

It always gets called chavvy on Mumsnet the only neaveh I know is far from chavvy though.
The chavs I know name their kids basic names like jack, Charlie, Ava etc. Don't tell Mumsnet though 🤫they would have heart attacks if they knew their kid shared a name with a chav

Deadringer · 07/03/2025 12:24

What about Lleh?

Pronounced “Clare” of course 😜

EmpressaurusKitty · 13/03/2025 12:27

There’s a little boy on my road called Lucifer. I know because I’ve heard his mum calling him.

Do you spend the most on CentaParx?

HugoYorway · 13/03/2025 14:55

CentaParx was a surprise late addition the family and we had more disposable income by then.

Chaptertwobegins · 13/03/2025 15:48

When i first heard the name Nevaeh, i thought it sounded so beautiful, i was instantly put off when they explained it was heaven backwards.🙄

However i still think it sounds so beautiful, i just wish it had a different meaning. Honestly, if it weren't so popular, and others didn't know the meaning, i would have chosen it for my daughter. And completely disregarding the heaven thing.

AngryLikeHades · 13/03/2025 15:57

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 07/03/2025 12:11

I've never understood it. Why spell Heaven backwards? Why not forwards? Why not spell other words backwards?

💯 %

HugoYorway · 13/03/2025 16:33

How about Enema or Enemella. MN backwards plus a feminine ending.

Nolava - Avalon backwards.

ChaffinchsBreakfast · 13/03/2025 17:33

It's ridiculous and sounds like Never which opens up a raft of unpleasantness at school.
