Thoughts on this? Personally I'm not keen but DP likes it for our 3rd DD. Think it sounds a bit chavy tbh.

I'm not sure how you are pronouncing it, but it reminds me of nevus, which include multiple different skin conditions. Don't look up hairy nevus! 😕

HugoYorway · 07/03/2025 12:42

It screams out 'young mother from a humble socio-economic background'.

Havenshow · 07/03/2025 12:43

I knew someone once whose granddaughter was called Chardonnay. Its a step up from that, but that’s the best I can say.

AuntAgathaGregson · 07/03/2025 12:44

No. If your partner likes the sound, then Niamh is the way to go.

redcherrie · 07/03/2025 12:49

No

I actually love it, I think it has a beautiful sound and rolls off the tongue nicely.

MN will hate it though as it’s associated with people who are not middle-class.

The family I know who've used this name are middle class but very religious.

BunnyLake · 07/03/2025 12:50

Could you change the spelling? Nevaya or something like that? The spelling more than the sound is so offputting.

ForFunGoose · 07/03/2025 12:56

I think it’s awful sorry

Frostynoman · 07/03/2025 12:58

S’ti a on morf em

littleluncheon · 07/03/2025 12:59

I know of a Naveya (Navy for short) which I found really cute!

Normallynumb · 07/03/2025 13:00

I'm sorry but I absolutely hate this
There's bound to be other names which mean " heavenly" or precious
Even something such as Faith( I like this) or even Angela

littleluncheon · 07/03/2025 13:00

Or, Haven is often used as a name now.

Spidey66 · 07/03/2025 13:10

Awful name.

Mirabai · 07/03/2025 13:10

Frostynoman · 07/03/2025 12:58

S’ti a on morf em

Me morf on a s’ti…🤓

Topseyt123 · 07/03/2025 13:12

It's horrendous.

Firstly, Heaven spelled backwards!! Just why? Utterly stupid.

Secondly, it reminds me of Nivea moisturiser and suncream. Just no!!

I wouldn't have used my veto on baby names for that much, but definitely would have for this one. My foot would be going down with a huge clang.

You are having a lovely baby. Give her a lovely name. Not this one!

ThePinkPowerRangers · 07/03/2025 13:30

It’s fucking awful. And always gets followed with ‘it’s heaven backwards’. We know. Everyone knows.

The Nevaeh at my DCs school gets her name screeched loudly across the playground by her mum whose only volume is loud.

SerenityNowSerenityNow · 07/03/2025 15:00

I actually love it, I think it has a beautiful sound and rolls off the tongue nicely.

Funnily enough, one of the reasons I dislike it is because I feel it's quite clunky to say .

HugoYorway · 07/03/2025 15:03

And always gets followed with ‘it’s heaven backwards’ Especially if they've spelt it as Neveah. Nevaya/Naveya is probably worse.

How about Sedah? (say-da, Hades backwards Smile)

@SerenityNowSerenityNow , it's awful. It doesn't look or sound pretty.

TheDevilWearPrimarni · 07/03/2025 15:24

It's just grim and embarrassing.

CaptainMyCaptain · 07/03/2025 15:26

Snorlaxo · 07/03/2025 12:13

It’s the “heaven spelled backwards” that gives it that impression. Unique spellings are acceptable in places like the US but “creative spelling” will have people judging the child (and parents) before people even meet. (I know the child didn’t pick the name but the child will be an adult one day )

I would never judge the child but might judge the parents.

I had a Nevaeh in my class once. She was lovely and her mum was actually nice too. I still don't like the name.

SkiAndTravelTheWorldWithMyDog · 07/03/2025 15:33

Ask him what the point of having this name is? Is it even a name or just a made up jumble of letters?

eqpi4t2hbsnktd · 07/03/2025 16:03

Very chavvy. There is one in my kids school. We are east London so it's pronounced "Nav-ayyy-yarrrr" .
Also isn't there something a bit sinister about Heaven but backwards? Like a bit satanic or something!

Mudkipper · 07/03/2025 16:06

Angelica, Celeste, Gabriela all better

Needmorelego · 07/03/2025 16:08

Mumsnet hates this name for some reason.
It's not a name I would personally use but I quite like it and wouldn't bat an eyelid if I meet anyone called it.
What I really actually hate is the use of "chav".
Such an insulting word.

BobbyBiscuits · 07/03/2025 16:10

No, it's dreadful.
Maybe..
