Girls name to match Eve

Evmamai · 12/02/2025 14:56

Hi all, we have a toddler named Eve and are expecting a second baby girl in March. We found picking Eve’s name super easy and even now she suits it’s so well. Her full name is Eve Alexandra.
Our shortlist right now is

  • Zara
  • May
  • Isla
  • Grace

However none feel quite right, I love May but DH worries that two single syllable 3 letter names is a bitch match. I also love Isla but it is very popular. DH loves Grace but I went to school with. Girl who was cruelly nicknamed “Greasy Grace” and now I hear grease when ever I hear Grace. Zara is another of my preferences but DH says it makes him think of the shop!

So any ideas or suggestions? Our surname is McManus.

I do like Sophia but I find it a little “frilly” and prefer 1 or 2 syllable names. We don’t really love the Amelia/Olivia/Isabella/Sophia names and they are really popular at our DDs nursery.

I think May is lovely and don’t see an issue with 2 1-syllable names. They inhabit their own name so quickly that it soon becomes the thing that means them, rather than an abstract name (if that makes any sense!)

Lydia came to mind for me

This may not help but my Ds was going to be Eve if he was a girl , my other favourite names for a girl was Miranda or Amelia

RuthW · 12/02/2025 15:08

May is lovely.

You definitely need a one syllable name.

May is nice and think doesnt matter both 3 letters
What about Faye?

The Eve I know has a sister called Beatrice (Bea) - I always think Eve and Bea sound gorgeous together!

I love May too - it’s got that classic, pretty simplicity like Eve and is so underused for a first name. I think that two one syllable names sounds lovely ☺️

Isla and Grace are nice but so many of them round here.

I think I like May best from your list. Also like the suggestions of Zoe and Rose.

GreyhoundGal1 · 12/02/2025 15:33

I think May would be lovely and not too popular as a first name. I know sisters called Clare and Grace and no one commented on them both being single syllable or the same length. They're sisters yes but will be out in the world separately so it's more important you love each name.

Or how about June, Alice, Thea, Joy, Faye, Iris

What's a bitch match?

I just assumed it was an autocorrect gone wrong - ‘bit too matchy’.

Chuchoter · 12/02/2025 18:22

Faye.
