What does the name Alfie make you think of?

I think its a classic boys name and its one of my current favourites. My husband says he just thinks of Alfie Moon from Eastenders and thinks its a bit of a common name for that reason. I've never watched Eastenders so don't have these connotations! Will everyone else?

I would agree Alfie Moon as I’m an avid soap watcher!
Its a nice enough name though.

TakeMyLifeAndLetItBe · 08/01/2025 12:15

I associate the name with dogs, to be honest. Seems to be a popular dog name.

shellyleppard · 08/01/2025 12:16

I think of the children books by Shirley hughes..... Alfie and annie rose. Were a family favourite when my children were young ❤️

Berlinlover · 08/01/2025 12:17

I think of the Cilla Black song Alfie from the film of the same name. I love the name Alfie.

Cheery Cockney chappie market trader, or the minor character in a WWI novel who is the first of the company to die in the trenches, having carelessly shown everyone the picture of his girlfriend and explained how he promised her to come home safe.

Flufffycats · 08/01/2025 12:19

I haven’t watched soaps for yearssss but as soon as I hear Alfie I do think of Alfie moon. I do like the name though

Every other boy in the school I work in

ForgottenPasswordNewAccount · 08/01/2025 12:20

Loads of 10-11 year old Alfies around me

BBQPete · 08/01/2025 12:21

I'd sing 'Alfie' from the 60s film of the same name, but in my mind, I picture Alfie from Alfie and Annie Rose - the lovely children's stories from Shirley Hughes.

Birdscratch · 08/01/2025 12:22

A very, very popular name. I don’t think it’s a classic.

frecklejuice · 08/01/2025 12:22

Quite common and regularly the "naughty child" along with Archie!

moomindragon · 08/01/2025 12:24

I see it as kind of a cutesy name for a baby or pet but doesn't suit an older child/ teen/ adult.

TomatoSandwiches · 08/01/2025 12:25

Common name and the boys bestowed with the name tend to be lovely cheeky chaps or troublesome rude young boys

I wouldn't use the name.

TomatoSandwiches · 08/01/2025 12:25

Alfie, Albie, Archie all the same.

Riapia · 08/01/2025 12:25

What’s it all about?

bzarda · 08/01/2025 12:26

I taught a lovely boy called Alfie who was so polite and likeable. He is a teenager so I don't agree that it only fits a baby/small child. I also haven't watched Eastenders since I was young but Alfie Moon isn't a bad character! Plus by the time he is older I doubt anyone will remember or associate the name with him.

IrrationalIvy · 08/01/2025 12:26

Lily Allen’s song ‘Alfie’ about her brother, but that’s quite niche I imagine.

“Oh, Alfie get up
It's a brand new day
I just can't sit back
And watch you waste your life away”

EmpressaurusKitty · 08/01/2025 12:26

A terrier I used to know. And a friend’s kitten.

Bideshi · 08/01/2025 12:26

Alfred.

Purplecatshopaholic · 08/01/2025 12:28

I think it’s a song, although not one I could sing, lol. I don’t watch soaps though. It’s a very common name though so I wouldn’t use it for that reason.

KittenOnTheTable · 08/01/2025 12:30

My cat is called Alfie he came with the name when we adopted him

littleluncheon · 08/01/2025 12:32

TomatoSandwiches · 08/01/2025 12:25

Alfie, Albie, Archie all the same.

Yes they've kind of become 'naughty boy' names like Connor, Callum, Kyle used to be.

Whydoeseveryonewanttoargue · 08/01/2025 12:34

I think of a shortened version of Alfred. Alfie Moon, Alfie the movie and a dogs name.

saveforthat · 08/01/2025 12:34

Michael Caine.
