How does the name Archer sound for a baby boy?

We are going to have a baby boy soon, and I really like the name Archie. However, I’m not sure if it will suit him as he grows up, so I was thinking of naming him ‘Archer Storm’. I was wondering if the name Archer is common and if it pairs well with the middle name Storm. Also, any name suggestions would be greatly appreciated! I’d love to have a trendy English name rather than a more traditional one 🥰

Archie is main stream enough to be used as a full name.
It is well known and manly enough for a grown up.
I don't really like Storm. Do you like AS for his initials?

Archie could also be a mix of his initials, for example:
Argus Christopher - Archie
Argyle Charles
Arlo Chester
Arlen Chaney

Other suggestions ..
Archie Barak
Archie Alexander
Archer Gillespie
Archer Lancelot
Archer Clive

Edited

Archie to me sounds like some old git who's always sat in pub after a day at the allotment.

At least Archer gives him a dignified option in adulthood.

Think beyond the toddler years, OP.

@Uricon2 he's been dead for nearly 40 years.

Yes, might indeed be a bit difficult to ask him, but he jettisoned it as soon as he could!

I'm not keen on names that were originally trades (like Cooper or Fletcher or Archer) . It's a bit like calling someone Bin-man or Solicitor.
Archer Storm sounds like the male love interest in a Mills and Boon book.

OP, if the feedback on this thread has put you off Archer, what about Asher? It's not too different but has different associations and is a bit softer.

Sounds like a Pirate

It’s a no from me. I’ve come across a few Archers. Sounds far too try hard and Archer Storm sounds ridiculous. Far too much to live up to. The only person who could get away with a name like this would have to be incredible charismatic and attractive. Long hair, beautiful eyes, high cheek bones, intelligent, creative and an outdoor type. Are you 100% certain that your son would be all that?

🤣🤣🤣

Don't speak too soon. You know it's only a matter of time before we see Binman (nn Binny) or Lectura or Barber or Busman showing up here.

The poor child will get the Archers theme tune sung at him for evermore.

Storm is just dreadful.

Sorry.

We have an Archer in our family. Nobody calls him Archie or mistakes his name for Archie and it's shortened to Arch. It's currently in the top 200 names so nobody except the MN Trads will be horrified or confused by it.

Storm is a traditional Scandinavian name. If you have Scandi roots then go for it.

I wouldn't post a slightly 'out there' name on MN - the pearl clutching from the contingent who will only countenance Oliver/Olivia as acceptable names is bizarre.

Op put a name on Mumsnet to get opinions and was given opinions. Simple

Archer is a good name, but Storm isn’t.

They really won’t.

In what world do you think anybody under the age of 40 (& that's being generous) will know the archers theme tune 🙄

I mean, really! 😂

Ghostin · 05/01/2025 13:34

I like Archie better than Archer, and I’m afraid I don’t like Storm at all. ‘Archer Storm’ as a combination sounds like someone trying to name the angsty hero of a young adult novel where he has to bring down a dystopian regime using the power of rivers or some bollocks like that. I know this is very harsh but it’s truly how I feel!

I don’t inherently object to trendy names, but there is a difference between trendy and naff and Archer Storm is, unfortunately, the latter.

My son, he's 28. Probably because Billy Connolly said it would make a better national anthem!
