How does the name Archer sound for a baby boy?

We are going to have a baby boy soon, and I really like the name Archie. However, I’m not sure if it will suit him as he grows up, so I was thinking of naming him ‘Archer Storm’. I was wondering if the name Archer is common and if it pairs well with the middle name Storm. Also, any name suggestions would be greatly appreciated! I’d love to have a trendy English name rather than a more traditional one 🥰

PS he will end up being called Archie anyway.

Archer sounds to me like a misspelled name

Sunnyflow · 04/01/2025 08:24

Archer 🏹 is awful as a name. If you like Archie, use the proper name Archibald.

Archer is a surname and Storm sounds pretentious. My kids have traditional names and have often said they're glad we didn't go for any 'out there' names.

Mine have more traditional names and accuse me of being boring. 😁

Berlinlover · 04/01/2025 08:24

I really like Archer but Storm is just awful.

Sunnyflow · 04/01/2025 08:26

I also find Archie way too cutesy and think it will date badly

thinktwice36 · 04/01/2025 08:27

Sounds daft. Really daft. Don’t lumber a future adult with a silly name please.

Storm no

archer will spend his entire life saying

no not Archie, Archer

TinyMouseTheatre · 04/01/2025 08:36

I prefer Archer to Archie but then I'm not a big fan of the Street Urchin type names.

I'm not too fond of it together with Stirm though but honestly, how many of us use our middle names? There was a slight ripple around the room at a DF's Wedding when his middle name was revealed but even he finds it hilarious.

Use the name you love Flowers

Mercurial123 · 04/01/2025 08:44

Awful names.

That's true too but I have a very common name, completely of it's time, and I spend a lot of time spelling it too.

TubeScreamer · 04/01/2025 08:50

Your child will hate you for it.

COPPER3 · 04/01/2025 09:00

I actually like the name Archer. It's nice to hear a different name rather than the popular ones. Archie is nice too, but it doesn't go with Storm. Maybe Archer (and a traditional name)...

This was the most appropriate Archer gif i could find to summarise my feelings about the name "Archer Storm"

Yes!
OP, watch at least one episode of the tv show Archer (named after the main character) before deciding on the name.

JanefromLondon1 · 04/01/2025 09:19

Beef him up from an early age and he'd fit right in on the TV series Gladiators!!

Love Archie, Archer is also nice. Not sure on Storm.

I know an Archie James.

We all know an Archie James.

Just one? Wink

YYURYYUCICYYUR4ME · 04/01/2025 09:51

Only Archie I know gets called Arch! Archie reminds me of a 60s pop group, Archer one of Star Trek's captains.

True 😆 there are three Archie's in my sons year

wantnoscrubs · 04/01/2025 09:55

What are your other options

wantnoscrubs · 04/01/2025 09:56

Can you spare Archer with a traditional name like William or Thomas? I think that makes Archer sound 10000% nicer

Namechange1345677 · 04/01/2025 09:57

Archer is fine....Storm is not

TotallyTwisted · 04/01/2025 09:59

I'd swap the order and go with Storm Archer. Then there's an excellent chance he'll feature in a weather warning one day.

Vroomfondleswaistcoat · 04/01/2025 09:59

IMO Archer sounds a bit wibbly, as though you like the name Archie but wanted him to be 'a bit different' to the millions of Archies currently running around. Everyone will mishear it as Archie anyway. And call him Arch or Archie.

Storm - well, if you must. Nobody uses their middle name anyway, which is why it's normally used as the receptacle for family names that the parents don't like but want a child to have invisibly. So it doesn't really matter past the first four or five days after birth when everyone asks what you're calling him.
