How does the name Archer sound for a baby boy?

We are going to have a baby boy soon, and I really like the name Archie. However, I’m not sure if it will suit him as he grows up, so I was thinking of naming him ‘Archer Storm’. I was wondering if the name Archer is common and if it pairs well with the middle name Storm. Also, any name suggestions would be greatly appreciated! I’d love to have a trendy English name rather than a more traditional one 🥰

I love Archer but Archer Storm is bad sorry.

FKAT · 04/01/2025 11:48

We have an Archer in our family. Nobody calls him Archie or mistakes his name for Archie and it's shortened to Arch. It's currently in the top 200 names so nobody except the MN Trads will be horrified or confused by it.

Storm is a traditional Scandinavian name. If you have Scandi roots then go for it.

I wouldn't post a slightly 'out there' name on MN - the pearl clutching from the contingent who will only countenance Oliver/Olivia as acceptable names is bizarre.

FKAT · 04/01/2025 11:58

Also I have a dated name - as in one that was briefly fashionable and used widely in 70s/80s but no longer used at all. Funnily enough I get through life fine. Nobody finds it 'laughable' that 50 year old women are called Claire (DATED) Gale (BAD WEATHER) or 40 year old men are called Ryan (A SURNAME).

EcruCardigan · 04/01/2025 12:10

I don't like Archer, or Archie. Arthur is much better. Storm is not to my taste. Archer Storm is awful.

The girl's name is Gail not Gale.

Archie is main stream enough to be used as a full name.
It is well known and manly enough for a grown up.
I don't really like Storm. Do you like AS for his initials?

Archie could also be a mix of his initials, for example:
Argus Christopher - Archie
Argyle Charles
Arlo Chester
Arlen Chaney

Other suggestions ..
Archie Barak
Archie Alexander
Archer Gillespie
Archer Lancelot
Archer Clive

I'd always Google a name to see what comes up Archer storm brings up:

Top - adult romance novels called Vancouver Storm by Stephanie Archer.
2nd - Instagram account for a singing cat called Archer Storm
3rd - Storm Archers is apparently a class of character in Dungeons and Dragons.

Sunnyflow · 04/01/2025 14:40

Archie is short for Archibald.

I personally hate both (Archie too twee and Archibald is ugly)

Archer is someone that uses an arch 🏹

sanityisamyth · 04/01/2025 14:46

Awful. Very American.

Printedword · 04/01/2025 15:32

Archer sounds quite American and pretty good. He could use Archie or Archer if he wanted to, whereas Archibald is never going to be a name he's likely to want to use.
Archibald also has the disadvantage of being a bit like a sentance which has teaseworthy potential. Trust me on this, my surname had similar and worse possibility. Regarding Storm, firstly Archer Storm is - again - sentance potential although not for jokes about baldness; secondly, both the Storms I can bring to mind are the comic book character and Storm Huntley and they are both female.

Just no. If you like Archie use Archie. But Storm? And Archer Storm? Please don’t do that to your child.

I entreat all expectant mothers to flee from the name Archie. It benefits from being both oversaturated and unattractive, though if you are seriously considering calling your poor baby "Archer Storm" you must either be a washed-up celebrity or have very bad taste, so having a baby Archie (probably dressed in jeans at two weeks old) certainly won't bother you.

Sunnyflow · 04/01/2025 16:09

Archie is soo cutesy and twee - I cannot see how a grown man would want to be named that!?

EcruCardigan · 04/01/2025 16:17

@Sunnyflow , because adults usually are known by the names they were known as as a child.

Luminous2789 · 04/01/2025 18:56

The only Archie I know is only ever known as Arch. It suits him so much I did not like the name at first however I have grown to love it

Uricon2 · 04/01/2025 19:03

Archie. Well ask Cary Grant about that! Grin

If you like the meaning, what about Ivo? Yew or "little Archer" I think.

EcruCardigan · 04/01/2025 19:06

@Uricon2 he's been dead for nearly 40 years.

SushiWarrior · 04/01/2025 19:06

Archer on its own is nice enough, but paired with storm it either sounds like a cocktail from Wetherspoons or a male pornstar.

crackfoxy · 04/01/2025 19:07

Archer yes. Storm no.

frecklejuice · 04/01/2025 19:08

Archer is ok but not Storm! Isn't Storm a tv gladiator?

wizzywig · 04/01/2025 19:09

Only here for the comments and have not been disappointed

Kickingasssince72 · 04/01/2025 19:12

Don't listen to these opinions. If you like it use it. My son has a couple of names I'm sure would get ripped to shreds on here, yet he wears it well, and people always remember him, he's not just another Henry, Alfie whatever. He was at a party at Christmas a fair few of them had names that are more unique and all compared how much they liked it.

usernother · 04/01/2025 19:15

Archer is bad enough, but Archer Storm would make him a laughing stock

kate592 · 04/01/2025 19:20

Archie is lovely, just go with that. Storm doesn't suit anyone except a porn star.

Wavescrashingonthebeach · 04/01/2025 19:22

The only Storm i like is Storm Huntley, the beautiful Scottish TV presenter. And i only think it works because she has such a normal last name to offset the unusual name. And her eyes are just so stunning- and I'm totally straight.

BettyBardMacDonald · 04/01/2025 19:22

17caterpillars1mouse · 04/01/2025 07:49

Archer yes, nice enough. I like it more than Archie. But Archer Storm? haha imagine that corker on his wedding day

Yes, with Storm it sounds like an Eastenders name.

Archer Matthew
Archer Andrew
Archer david
Archer Louis
Archer Martin

You need to balance the unusual with the normal

Wavescrashingonthebeach · 04/01/2025 19:23

@BettyBardMacDonald Great minds think alike haha!
