My favourite is Kai and DH is Noah. Well I have a lot more favourites that DH has vetoed! These are the only ones from the lists that haven’t been dismissed. I’m aware Noah is currently no. 1 I think.
And I had grown up on MN that “K” names were a no/no so I’m torn 😂

Noah is a classic, Kai very chavvy (sorry!)

Loggingoverandout · 24/09/2024 18:05

I’m guessing Noah is a classic but it’s currently no. 1 name so will become very over used?

I really like Koa!

Where I live Kai is the name change choice for Non Binary girls , along with gender neutral Alex.

Where I am, Kai is the trans man's name of choice, ie girls/women who 'identify' as boys/men. Either that or chavs. Noah is much nicer.

It just makes me think of surfers (there are a few professional surfers called Kai). I like it

midlifeattheoasis · 24/09/2024 18:44

Oh please not Kai

Fifthtimelucky · 24/09/2024 19:14

Loads of posh people have names starting with K - Keira Knightly, Kate Middleton, Kit Harrington.

Yes but Kate Middleton is Catherine and Kit Harington is Christopher!

KirstenBlest · 24/09/2024 19:25

@Fifthtimelucky , she's Princess Catherine, and Kit is short for Christopher.

Sorry, quoted the wrong poster.

Dmsandfloatydress · 24/09/2024 19:39

Cai along with Rhys and Gafin are traditional old Welsh names. I really hate how the English state that our celtic names are Chavvy! I'm sure the Irish are equally as pissed off. These names are older than many English names and not made up Yoonek, naff names with no history or meaning! Fed up!

Skybluepinky · 24/09/2024 19:55

Kai was popular boys name about 6 years ago, now it’s a popular dogs name.

notaurewhatusername · 24/09/2024 19:57

I would steer clear of K names I do think they're chavvy sorry. I say that as a bit of a chav myself too!!

But Cai is not Kai so not the subject of this thread......

KirstenBlest · 24/09/2024 20:03

@Dmsandfloatydress , but Rhys pronounced Rees used with no Welsh connection is a bit Hmm. I thought Gavin was Scottish, but Gawain is of Welsh origin. Gafin is a bit iffy. Gavin seems a bit dated.
Cai and Kai aren't the same name.

PiggieWig · 24/09/2024 20:06

What about Nye?

MintGlitter · 24/09/2024 20:13

How about Malachai?
Great nick names of 'Kai' or Mali and a lovely name, but not too popular.

Bs0u416d · 24/09/2024 20:15

Yes Kai is dreadfully Chavy. Noah is lovely. My cat is called now. Gosh, how outing 😂

KezzaMucklowe · 24/09/2024 20:20

Nothing wrong with K names. Grin
I wouldn't have chosen Kai for my dc just out of preference but I don't think it's a chivvy name. Tbh I wouldn't look at anyones name and think that.

@JMSA thats what I thought it would be but didn’t think I could write chavvy without getting slated 😂 I’ve always seen K names as such!

What Kirsty? Kate? Katherine? Don't think you can rule a whole letter's worth of names as being chavvy! 😀

I also don't think Kai is chavvy at all. It's a lovely name. Noah is also nice.

Dotto · 23/09/2024 11:03

Kit is nicer, or Bryce

🧐 really

Lion1618 · 24/09/2024 21:37

What about Koa? Similar vibe to Kai but less negative assocation, with the softness of Noah but much less ubiquitous.

timoteigirl · 24/09/2024 22:58

Kai sounds so meh! Malachi is a good idea. Samson from the Old Testament the same as Noah? Aiden? Liam?

Barleysugar86 · 24/09/2024 23:04

I know Noah is meant to be really common but in London with a couple of kids I have only come across one.

Kai is a beautiful strong name if you take the chavvyness of it. I think I would be tempted to give him a full name (Malakai probably) so they could formalise it for job interviews or if they were worried about being pre judged.

KirstenBlest · 25/09/2024 08:44

Malakai is awful. it's Malachi. @Barleysugar86
