I don't like the name Dustin, I just think of dustbin.

Any name that is no longer doing its job In naming or identifying someone!

So overused names like Theo or Eve - there are just sooo many...!

Belshels · 30/08/2024 16:59

I've come across Lettice and that's not good IMO.
Some of the old man names such as Stanley, Alfred, Albert, dot keen on

MontyVerdi · 30/08/2024 17:00

Gobnait - just doesn't gel with me at all.

smallsilvercloud · 30/08/2024 17:01

Not keen on anything too American or too Irish, something that not usually pronounced in the rest of the uk, unless you live there. Being named after a celebrity or celebrities child.
The trend for some old people's names doesn't appeal, Arthur, Maggie.

Nate. Awful.
And I know a truly horrible Susan. So that too.

BoleynMemories13 · 30/08/2024 17:02

There are a lot of current trends I'm not keen on (surnames as first names such a Hunter, Hudson, Carter etc, cutesy ie short forms such as Reggie, Albie, Teddy etc, animal names such as Bear, Tiger, Wolf etc) but the names that came to mind straight away were:-

Jaxon
Beau
Kayden

Aurora
Nova
Nevaeh

The boys names are all due to association, I've never met a nice one. The girls names are just because I find them a bit ridiculous and cringe when I hear them.

I really don't understand the current popularity of Willow either. It's such a whiney sound and feels quite a weak name. Each to their own I guess.

Sarah. The most plain and boring of all names.

I agree with this, I have always thought this to be such a dull girls name!

For a boy, my nephew is called Albie and I really, really hate it. It just doesn’t feel like a proper name to me!

Dyra · 30/08/2024 17:04

I'm enjoying how many of these I like. Not enough that I would use them (except Sebastian. 10/10 if I had another boy would use that), but I don't dislike them.

I myself detest Rafferty. Genuinely feel sorry for any child with that name. It's just so shit.

I used to know a Peregrine! He had a brother called Merlin. Apparently they were named after the planes, rather than the birds

I am always quoting Cabin Pressure on threads, but this seems so apposite

CAROLYN: “Herc”?
HERC: That’s it, yes, yes. Short for “Hercules”. Dad was rather eccentric. After the aircraft, though, rather than the hero. I find I never know if that makes it better or worse.
CAROLYN: Do you have any brothers?
HERC: Wellington and Harrier.
CAROLYN: Sisters?
HERC: Sarah. He was eccentric, not mad

My name, both my parents' names and both my children's middle names have been mentioned, along with some hurtful comments. You're right.

Ashamed to say I did respond to the thread but then thought better of it and removed my comment.
No need to be unnecessarily hurtful.

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 30/08/2024 17:09

Ella. Jenna. and Mason.

Ashley for a boy. Yet I love it for a girl so it’s clearly not the sound that irks me.

Leyla and Leila. However I quite like Layla/Laila.

MerryMarys · 30/08/2024 17:09

I guess Albert is ok, but Albie? So twee and cutesy...?! Parents seem to forget that their cute little baby will evolve into a grown man one day!!

ScarletV · 30/08/2024 17:11

I really dislike Dennis.

Hatethisheadofmine · 30/08/2024 17:11

Freya

Blueybanditbingochilli · 30/08/2024 17:12

Indie for a girl. Every try hard ‘hippy mum’ type I know has a daughter called Indie.

BoleynMemories13 · 30/08/2024 17:13

JustGotToKeepOnKeepingOn · 30/08/2024 16:52

What a horrible thread. Totally unnecessary. People like and dislike all kinds of things but usually keep the to themselves so as not to hurt other people.

You do realise you don't have to read if you're a delicate flower who will be mentally scarred by someone mentioning your name or that of your child?

I agree it would be nasty to say you hate a name if someone has created a thread saying they're considered it (unless they explicitly asked for honesty and you could explain your reasons in a polite way which OP may find useful) but there's nothing wrong with people discussing their feelings about names in general, that nobody has specifically asked about. As I said, you can choose not to click on such a thread if you know you're easily offended.

Alfie, Ottie, Lottie, Mathilda, Oscar, Ollie, Rose, Rosie, Gracie. Basically anthing twattie.

That's two of my children's names right there. Nice thread.

henroy · 30/08/2024 17:18

Phoebe
Lucy
Ava
Agnes
Maddison

Blueybanditbingochilli · 30/08/2024 17:19

My child’s name is on here and I’m not offended at all. Why would I be? I like it. It’s logical others won’t. It’s such a non issue, if you’re genuinely upset somebody doesn’t like your child’s name then you need to improve your resilience or not click on such threads. It’s a choice after all.

iwantsomethingelse · 30/08/2024 17:19

Ophelia
Fallon (sounds like Gallon)
Payton / Peyton
Nevaeh

Beginningless · 30/08/2024 17:20

Cruz and Casper are two that come to mind as friends have these and while they are delightful kids, I don’t get it. Darcy. Sophie, Lucy, most of the ultra common names. So many names actually!!
