I don't like the name Dustin, I just think of dustbin.
What name do you really dislike?

Tabitha- it's a cat's name but specifically a cat belonging to a crazy cat lady whose house smells of feet and cabbage.

Felicity
John
Toby (reminds me of the word toes and I hate feet with a passion 😂)
Arabella
Ottilie (never heard it being used in real life but it seems to be a MN fave, sounds oily to me)

It always made me think of Tabitha Twitchitt and still does but it also has potential to be interestingly witchy

I don't dislike the name Tabitha as such but to me it's a cat name (thanks to Beatrix Potter). A relative named her daughter Tabitha and every time I hear it I think "but that's a cat!"

I have the same thing for Toby. Toby featured in my life for years as a neighbours dog and I can’t break the association!

I have met a couple of young Toby’s and it’s a great name on them, but I’m always briefly taken aback there isn’t a golden retriever in front of me Grin

also, fwiw, my DD’s name has cropped up a couple of times on this thread (well recognised but not common name) and frankly I couldn’t give a flying one what some random on the internet thinks about it. It suits her perfectly. 😛

Alpolonia · 31/08/2024 18:46

Leanne
Pauline
Olivia
Myleene
Harriet - always suggested on here.

Summerperfume · 31/08/2024 19:35

My first name hasn’t been mentioned but my middle name has been mentioned loads and I am fully on board with hating it! It’s Ruth and I despise it as a middle name.

my favourite girls name has been mentioned and I really don’t care 🤷‍♀️ everyone is different and I still love it 🥰 which shows I must love the name.

surprised my fav boys name hasn’t been mentioned as MN tends to hate it

I posted several posts answering the question and discussing it as an active part of the thread.

You are not answering the question, you posted a random unrelated inflammatory statement then started arguing with the person who answer why it is not the done thing.

Don't pretend you didn't mean it passive aggressively while talking about wanting to know what others called their 'own little darlings'.

RogueFemale · 01/09/2024 00:37

Ruth, Seth, Autumn, Harriet, Sydney.

Yes I find Emma the ultimate epitome of 'dull'.

Like theres nothing 'wrong' with it but I just can't imagine that in 9 months thats the greatest name a mind can possibly come up with... its just so plain and uninspired.

When Rachel from Friends used Emma.
I know st thought what a boring name.
Like you're in fashion living in New York and that's the best you could come up with.
And she didn't even come up with it,she robbed poor Monica's baby name.

StarvingMarvin222 · 01/09/2024 10:47

A few of my kids names have been mentioned but who cares.
I hate Poppy and Daisy and Rosie.
Especially the way Sally from Corrie and Lorraine pronounces it.

Here you are yet again assuming you know what I think and intend. There are lots of comments actually criticising this thread - which I did not - so go and troll them.

At least you’ve now started using apostrophes so my contribution has had some positive impact.

Well 3 of my dcs names and 3 of my gc names are here and mine starts with a K so I guess I can include that as well!

I'm not a fan of all the old lady names that have made a comeback over the last 13 or so years.

Blueybanditbingochilli · 01/09/2024 12:58

My name is on here and my kids! Not offended whatsoever. Love these threads.

@mumsnet is there a reason you deleted a post that explained how my disability caused years of struggle with communication when another repetitively mocked the mild grammar symptoms of a LD.

Seem like the oddest comment to delete and is silencing the disabled and their struggles. Is that in the mumsnet stance and in the rules that we aren't allowed to explain learning difficulties anymore when we are repetitively mocked for them?

Honestly, I read the whole thread and you were both as bad as each other. Let it go.

Candida.
I don't think I'll ever understand why anyone would want to name their child after a yeast infection.

Pulp's keyboardist is called Candida and as it was the first time I'd heard of the name, I've associated it ever since with being the epitome of coolness 😀Her brother is called Magnus

Sebastian has been mentioned a few times. It's a musical thing again - I heard Sebastian by Steve Harley and Cockney Rebel and have loved it ever since. Maybe there needs to be songs of excellence about Callums and Georges...

I don't like the names Deidre or Margaret or Maud or Wilfred though

OraettaMayflower · 01/09/2024 19:02

Cora
Noreen
Wayne
Joel

softmauve · 01/09/2024 19:03

Duncan
Hannah

MrsApplepants · 01/09/2024 19:16

Ottilie sounds silly
Lexi sounds like flexi
Austin reminds me of a rusty crap car
Amelie is just wet sounding
Also don’t like anything pretentious like Ptolemy, just no
Hate K names like Kai, Klay, Kayden etc

BESTAUNTB · 01/09/2024 19:24

Ruth and Yvonne. Completely irrational because the ones I’ve met over the years have been great girls/women. And I love the actors Ruth Wilson, Ruth Jones and Yvonne Strahovski.

Yes i read it, don't know why MN deleted it but you were being just as passive aggressive as the other poster was.
