Don’t like most girls names, and having a hard time finding one we like let alone love.
Whenever we ask for inspiration people suggest ‘whacky’ names but just to be clear Ophelia really isn’t that ‘out there’ and we’re not looking for a mad name, more classic but Beatrix and Florence etc just aren’t names I love. I’d say there aren’t any top 30 names I like either.
currently I like Emilia Belle
to go with my daughter Ophelia Ivy I just worry Ophelia and Emilia sound waaay to similar.
We like Delilah Belle
and
Oakley Belle
(The middle name yes is linked to a family member.)
I just don’t love these though.
please don’t come in with mad suggestions that have no relation whatsoever like when people on MN say oh I like Lola and someone says oh how about Susan..or they go the other way and suggest Hades or something. I haven’t got time for that 😂

I think you have beautiful names on your list!
I voted for Lavender Belle, but they are all lovely names.

Since you like the name Ophelia, do you like other names that appear in Shakespeare's plays? Perdita, Portia, Regan, Hermia?

Forgottenmyphone · 22/08/2024 17:03

Pandora
Letitia
India
Cassia
Penelope
Lydia
Athena
Theodora
Dorothea
Meredith
Saskia
Autumn

MistyF · 22/08/2024 17:05

"Don't suggest mad names" - it makes me wonder what you meant by this, but then I remembered this is mumsnet, not nameberry

I like Delilah Belle or Lavander Belle

Other similar suggestions
Cordelia
Margaret
Margareta - Croatian name sounds similar to Margaret+a but with accent over e
Idonea, Idony or Idunn - Norse goddess of youth, seen theory her name means 'to love again'
Cecily
Georgina or Georgiana
Juliet
Polina or Paola
Elysant - I seen this as medieval variation of Elizabeth or version or Millicent
Millicent or Melisande, Melisant or Melusine - Melisande without R is medieval name, Millicent is modern Melisande, Melusine is French historic literary name that was used among royals.
Helena
Lovisa - Swedish Louise
Callista - mythological name from Kallisto meaning "most beautiful"
Delphine

Thank You @SkaneTos . Not particularly a fan of Shakespearean names although I do coincidentally like Cordelia but again it’s the same sound as Ophelia isn’t it. Thanks for voting.

@MistyF I mean when people suggest something completely way off. Like if I say oh I like Emily and they go oooh what about Berlingo or something to that effect.
some lovely suggestions already. Thanks everyone.

Persephone

MummyEF · 22/08/2024 17:19

Love Persephone but I feel it’s not very wearable. Whilst Ophelia is fairly uncommon I still know a few babies with the name but feel like Persephone, whilst beautiful is too brave for us. I hear it’s one of the top name people love but don’t use though.

Erin
Violet
Willow
Jemima
Niamh
Araminta
Hermione
Seren
Pearl

shoopshoopdedoo · 22/08/2024 17:34

Voted for Delilah. I’m not keen on Oakley at all - it seems very different to Ophelia.

FWIW, I love Persephone - I don’t think it’s any more out there than Ophelia. In fact, I’ve never met an Ophelia! What about Ottilie?

MrsSamR · 22/08/2024 17:40

I have an Ophelia and Persephone was on our list for our second girl with the nickname/shortening Perse (pronounced Percy). We went with another Shakespearean name but others on our list were:

Cecily
Clementine
Tabitha
Iris
Beatrice
Jemima
Arabella
Artemis
Athena
Hermione
Florence
Clara

I can't really see Oakley or Delilah with Ophelia as they have a totally different feel for me.

Tootjaskoot · 22/08/2024 17:40

Emma Rose
Belinda Maeve
Eliza Maria
Cara Jean
Philippa Faith
Freja Elisabeth
Juliette Grace

Loopzy · 22/08/2024 17:44

Seraphina
Lavinia

Newsenmum · 22/08/2024 17:46

Delia
Dahlia

Slacktacular · 22/08/2024 17:51

Cleo Belle

LlynTegid · 22/08/2024 17:53

None of your three choices. Would be easy target for name calling or worse.

Consider some of the others.

LarissaFeodorovna · 22/08/2024 17:57

Victoria
Octavia
Theodora
Lydia
Christiana
Araminta
Isadora

Most of those not names I'd choose, with the exception of Victoria and Lydia, but they'd all work with Ophelia, I think.

theduchessofspork · 22/08/2024 17:57

Ophelia is beautiful classic - Emilia is nice too, but it is too similar. Delilah is too twee for me. Lavender is alright but a bit close to lavatory. Belle is naff (sorry) and please not Oakley, that is as weird as it gets.

maybe

Marianne
Genevieve
Verity
Imogen
Christabel

Adelaide
Leonie
Annalise

If you go for another ‘uh’ ending then

Francesca
Allegra
Estella
Cassia
Serena
Rosanna
Diana
Philippa (Pippa)

Isadora
Victoria
Rosaria
Leonora
Annabella

I like you need to sort a shortlist of first names before you worry about middle names

HarrietJonesFlydaleNorth · 22/08/2024 17:58

Genevieve
Maeve
Gwendolyn
Clarissa
Camille

Not Oakley though.

Drachuughtty · 22/08/2024 18:00

Brontë
Elodie
Estelle
Juliet

The names you've picked are lovely. Emilia is Shakespearean too. Oakley sounds like it could be bit or girl which you may be ok with.
