Sister for Ophelia Ivy

Don’t like most girls names, and having a hard time finding one we like let alone love.
Whenever we ask for inspiration people suggest ‘whacky’ names but just to be clear Ophelia really isn’t that ‘out there’ and we’re not looking for a mad name, more classic but Beatrix and Florence etc just aren’t names I love. I’d say there aren’t any top 30 names I like either.
currently I like Emilia Belle
to go with my daughter Ophelia Ivy I just worry Ophelia and Emilia sound waaay to similar.
We like Delilah Belle
and
Oakley Belle
(The middle name yes is linked to a family member.)
I just don’t love these though.
please don’t come in with mad suggestions that have no relation whatsoever like when people on MN say oh I like Lola and someone says oh how about Susan..or they go the other way and suggest Hades or something. I haven’t got time for that 😂

Emmeline is very nice

Emmeline Sophie
Emmeline Charlotte
Emmeline Beatrice
Emmeline Lucy
Emmeline Clara

Just avoid the cliches of May, Rose, Grace or Hope

ladygindiva · 23/08/2024 21:27

Persephone Belle
Hermione Belle
Genevieve Belle
Would all go with Ophelia

muffledvoice · 23/08/2024 21:41

Delilah or lavender

Others you may like are

Blossom
Cornelia
Delphine
Seraphina
Octavia

I think I would consider the personality of each name. Ophelia is ethereal, literary and feminine. Do you want another delicate name, in which case go with an Aria, Delilah, Emmeline and co, or do you want a name with another feel?
If it was me, I would pick a name in the same vein but with completely different sounds to differentiate the two sisters. So no "a" ending, and two syllables.

Literary and vintage: Esme, Esther, Vivienne, Juliet.
More dynamic and modern: Zoe, Margot, Juno, Maude.
Oh and love the suggestion of Maeve from a PP too.

Voilà ! Let us know what you end up with :)

The Ophelia I know has a sister called Aurelia.

I think these all work with Ophelia (which I love)
Genevieve
Odette
Helena
Clementine

chattyness · 24/08/2024 21:29

I voted for Oakley our of your 3 choices but I really don't like the other two. I'd prefer something like Araminta or Artemis

SpringtimeGirl · 24/08/2024 21:43

I'm unsure why you feel this way @KirstenBlest as it's just me saying I like the name and that I also have daughter with it. Don't try and read in to something that isn't there, finding and creating fault with people that isn't there isn't nice.

KirstenBlest · 24/08/2024 22:02

@SpringtimeGirl , I know that you probably meant you liked the name so much you used it and you like it even more now. It's just the way you worded it.

Only mentioned the missing '-ed' because I was commenting on the post.

Don't take things so seriously.

Notmycircusnotmyotter · 24/08/2024 22:20

I have an Ophelia ❤️

I also love
Clementine
Persephone
Aurelia (but a bit similar to Ophelia)

Notmycircusnotmyotter · 24/08/2024 22:21

And Seraphina (nn Sera)

Love Persephone but I feel it’s not very wearable. Whilst Ophelia is fairly uncommon I still know a few babies with the name but feel like Persephone, whilst beautiful is too brave for us. I hear it’s one of the top name people love but don’t use though.

Persephone, really!!
Bizarre!!
Come on!!
I guess most of you on here are upper middle class😂

I was going to suggest Beatrice Calla but you don't like Beatrix so probably won't like that

Rosalind Holly

Imogen Stella

Cordelia Juno

Rafaela Hope

zingally · 27/08/2024 17:22

I used to teach an Ophelia... If I remember correctly, she had an older sister, Scarlet.

semideponent · 27/08/2024 17:28

MummyEF · 22/08/2024 17:05

Thank You @SkaneTos . Not particularly a fan of Shakespearean names although I do coincidentally like Cordelia but again it’s the same sound as Ophelia isn’t it. Thanks for voting.

I thought of Cordelia as well and liked it because to me it feels different from Ophelia...starts with a consonant instead of a vowel (unlike Emilia).

Someone suggested Eloise upthread, and I like this too - different sound but similarly classic and feminine

NoEscapingMe · 27/08/2024 17:28

Ones I really like but I'm a nanna now so too late. Mary, Joy, Violet, Kathryn and Verity.

seeminglyranch · 27/08/2024 17:30

Emilia or Cordelia if you want to continue the Shakespearean/unhappy end theme?

Oakley is dreadful and doesn’t work at all with Ophelia.

miranda, Beatrice, Celia?

PrincessOfPreschool · 27/08/2024 17:37

Calista
Clarice

I know a Persephone (Seffie)

RuthW · 27/08/2024 19:11

Ophelia is quite a popular name so similar feeling are Emily, Ava, Evelyn
