Don’t like most girls names, and having a hard time finding one we like let alone love.
Whenever we ask for inspiration people suggest ‘whacky’ names but just to be clear Ophelia really isn’t that ‘out there’ and we’re not looking for a mad name, more classic but Beatrix and Florence etc just aren’t names I love. I’d say there aren’t any top 30 names I like either.
currently I like Emilia Belle
to go with my daughter Ophelia Ivy I just worry Ophelia and Emilia sound waaay to similar.
We like Delilah Belle
and
Oakley Belle
(The middle name yes is linked to a family member.)
I just don’t love these though.
please don’t come in with mad suggestions that have no relation whatsoever like when people on MN say oh I like Lola and someone says oh how about Susan..or they go the other way and suggest Hades or something. I haven’t got time for that 😂

Some great suggestions thanks.
i wasn’t too keen on Oakley just the only other O name I liked.
Delilah too isn’t my favorite but was trying to pick something a bit more common I suppose.
I actually do love Emmeline. But my family name Belle doesn’t really work as a middle name with it so would like middle name suggestions for Emmeline.
Also whenever I say Emmeline I think Millie would be a lovely nickname.

My first thought was Josephine. Also, I know you mentioned Susan as a silly suggestion in your op, but Susannah somehow has a very different vibe and would go nicely.

SpringtimeGirl · 22/08/2024 23:18

I love Delilah but I'm bias because I have one :)
I don't know any others. She's a few months old and we get lots of compliments on now pretty her name is which is always nice.
It's always so hard choosing a name it's so subjective x

If you like Emmeline how about:
Emily
Emma
Evangeline
Evelyn

All similar sounding and lovely classic names that sound nice with Ophelia

Emmeline Belle is lovely too and I think Ophelia and Emmeline go well together

It’s lovely to use the family linked name, but I think you will struggle unless you maybe go for three names or use Belle as the first name mostly because adding “ Belle” as a second name sounds like an American riverboat.

What about some classic names like Isabelle, Isabella ( quite heavily used) or Arabella ( which you could then shorten to Belle)?

Calliopespa · 23/08/2024 09:59

Have a look at some Mississippi riverboat names like the Liberty Belle and Julia Belle. There are also lots with it as a first name ( The Belle of Cincinnati, the Belle of Louisville etc) but I’m assuming as a first name you wouldn’t call her “ the” Belle so that works ok to my ear.

Calliopespa · 23/08/2024 10:25

I quite like Annabelle which has been out of favour for a while. Some of my best friends have been Annabelle and IME they are fun!

BoleynMemories13 · 23/08/2024 10:29

Delilah is by far my favourite of your choices. I think it sounds fine with Ophelia. Emilia is nice too but, like you say, way too close to Ophelia unfortunately with them both being 4 syllable vowel heavy names.

I really dislike Oakley for either sex and would steer clear of matching initials anyway. Lavender really isn't for me either. I just hear Lav (toilet).

Delilah is nice though.

Calliopespa · 23/08/2024 10:39

Btw I haven’t voted for any of the options because I think you need to consider the Mississippi Riverboat thing first.

But I didn’t intuitively feel Oakley or Delilah were in the same “ mood” as Ophelia. ( Though I guess they’d each get a song:
“ My oh my Delilah” and “ Oh-Oh-Pheliaaa.”! ) Ophelia, to me, has a Shakespearean feel and Delilah a biblical/ American puritan feel. Lavender probably the most similar.

SingingSands · 23/08/2024 12:15

Ophelia and...

Xanthe
Aria

KirstenBlest · 23/08/2024 13:11

I don't like Oakley at all - other than as a surname or brand name (horse box or sunglasses)

@SpringtimeGirl , I love Delilah but I'm bias because I have one :)
I always read this comment as 'I only like it because it's the name of my child - barely cared when we chose it" Smile. (it's biased, BTW)

@MummyEF , I think you need a longish name. I wouldn't pick another O name, or an Au- one, or a name ending in -elia, -ilia or -lia.

Something like Vanessa, Felicity, Verity, Vanessa, Tamara, Demitra...

Boopeedoop · 23/08/2024 13:22

Demelza
Hestia

BettyBardMacDonald · 23/08/2024 13:42

Tatiana

Hannahspeltbackwards · 23/08/2024 13:54

If it was me I would go for

Theodora Belle

Ophelia and Theodora.

Apollo365 · 23/08/2024 14:12

Emmeline (Millie or Emmie) Belle goes lovely

tattiescone10 · 23/08/2024 14:17

Our top choices were

Daisy
Delilah
Ophelia
Honey
Cove

We've decided on Daisy which I think has a lovely femininity to it that goes with the same feeling for Ophelia.
Of your options I would say Delilah
