We LOVE the name Lovey for a little girl, but obviously for more professional circumstances/later life it wouldn't be appropriate. Any ideas for what Lovey could be a nickname for?

I know it's a bit of a stretch but Ophelia could be Lovey I think, and a beautiful name.

Once they go to school though they will be called by the name you tell school so you can tell them to call her Lovey but if you don't it will just be a family pet name and die out.

Slushynana · 01/07/2024 17:22

I worked with someone we called Lovey, her full name was Luvinder which is a Sikh name.

ColinMyWifeBridgerton · 01/07/2024 17:26

Olivia?

ColinMyWifeBridgerton · 01/07/2024 17:27

Or Lorelei

Loveday is the only name I could think of. It’s an old English name. I suppose you could use Lavinia and shorten that to Lovey, but I really don’t like Lovey. It sounds like an impersonal and false term of affection like you might use to shepherd someone out of the way (“Come on now, lovey, let’s find you a chair over here”).

StopStartStop · 01/07/2024 17:28

Has to be Loveday. In fact, go the whole way. Loveday Minette.

DracoDormiensNumquamTittilandum · 01/07/2024 17:30

Just call her lovey if you feel like it. Her real name doesn't have to be related. You wouldn't ask for a name that sounds like darling because you planned to use that as a nickname! Also nicknames evolve. Deciding you're going to call an unborn child lovey is weird. Wait til she's here!

Well it was also this girl’s first name.

Lucy is the name of a brand of bin…
Stella is a type of beer…
So what?

She asked for name suggestions not judgey comments. Have a great day.

I know someone with Love as a middle name. How about that?

Shybutrude · 01/07/2024 17:41

We saw some children's artwork is a shop window (like a coop local) and one child's name was lovie on one of the pictures.

Abouttimeforanamechange · 01/07/2024 17:50

Once they go to school though they will be called by the name you tell school

Lovey and Lala? how is lala a nn for Larissa??
I think OP has been out in the sun a bit long 🤨

Conniebygaslight · 01/07/2024 17:57

Will Lala feel like Lovey is the obvious favourite?
Lovey should be a pet name for both, not a real name for one of your children IMO

maw1681 · 01/07/2024 18:01

Olivia? (I know an Olivia shortened to Liv/Livvie so Lovey could work)

SoulMole · 01/07/2024 18:08

Overthebow · 01/07/2024 16:08

Like the Teletubby?

I think some people call their lady parts their Lala....

newrubylane · 01/07/2024 18:08

What about choosing a more traditional name that means Love, like Aimee.

suburburban · 01/07/2024 18:09

Tracey Luv

Lovejoy was an Antiques dealer

NellyCortado · 01/07/2024 18:14

I know of a Lovelle. She's lnown as

MetaphorsBeWithYou · 01/07/2024 18:18

Em, list your four grandmothers’ names and choose one of them. Choose the second favourite as her middle name. Lovey is a nickname.

Brexile · 01/07/2024 18:20

Tilly22222 · 01/07/2024 17:18

Love is a great middle name, as in Jennifer Love Hewitt or Thomas Love Peacock.

Gladys Love Presley - Elvis' mum. They liked unusual names in that family!

NellyCortado · 01/07/2024 18:20

Sorry - meant to say I know of a Lovelle. She is known as Elle/Ellie. Could be an option if you really like Lovey. Gives an alternative for when she's older.

Takoneko · 01/07/2024 18:24

I’ve taught a couple of Loveys but a good few years ago now. They were both West African and I don’t remember anyone ever making fun of them because of their name.

In their cases that was their full name and not short for anything else but I think Lavinia would be my first thought if you want a more formal first name.
