We LOVE the name Lovey for a little girl, but obviously for more professional circumstances/later life it wouldn't be appropriate. Any ideas for what Lovey could be a nickname for?

Yes, Loveday was a name in the medieval times when names where literal words, yes popular in Cornwall/Devon area but it wasn't even originally spelled like that.

Its been virtually non existent in modern naming history frankly because it sounds stupid. Just like names like Gaylord, Obedience, Fanny, Lamb etc... that have also been dropped from common usage too because of ridiculousness.

Clutching at straws to say that just because it has had historic use its makes it a good name or reflects its modern usability.

I know a Loveday, she's from Cornwall and younger than me.

The ONS site shows that it's still used, even if not common.

What is stupid or ridiculous about Loveday? You may not like it but that doesn't make it an invalid name

Agreed and I have made similar points upthread. What’s more I actually knew a woman called Loveday who was working in a Devon based company I used to work with.

Lovey reminds me of my awful Yorkshire work colleague who called everybody this whilst stabbing them in the back!

How about Lavinia? Olivia could also work.
