At one job I had there was a very bossy 'Sadie' who was a bit of a bully.
Her nickname was 'Sadist'

Sadie was my Mum’s name. It evokes all her beauty and warmth, so of course I love it!

Really love it. I have a 4 week old niece called Sadie - the name came completely out of the blue but it's refreshing and we (as a family) have only had positive comments

Icehockeyflowers · 20/05/2024 00:24

I prefer the name Sarah. and think Sadie is ok. I don't like either name enough to use it.

To me Sadie is a bit old fashioned. I know two - one is in her 50s and was named after her grandmother. The other is twelve and is a mean girl with a very unlikeable mother so that influences my opinion of the name.

ETA I tend to lump the name Sadie with the name Sophie and there are so many Sophie's around, it doesn't make Sadie feel uncommon to me.

To me it evokes the old song 'I Love Mary' by Paddy Roberts... (1910-1975)

I love Mary
Shy, little, blue-eyed Mary
Warm and glowing as an Autumn sky
Sweet, sweet Mary
Never a bit contrary
And I'll love her 'til the day I die
But I'm going out with a blousy old trout called Sadie
She's right on the ball but she ain't what you call a lady
...

My friend’s seventeen year old daughter is called Sadie. I love it.

I think the same but I think it’s because the only Sadie I’ve known (in my year at secondary school) was very much like this.

I wonder if we all knew the same Sadie!

I would use Sarah, nn Sadie, if I wanted a Sadie.

TM1979 · 20/05/2024 09:56

I like it. I know 2 Sadie’s, age 13 & 8. Really suits them.

Tuwhituwhoo · 20/05/2024 10:11

Eww

Sadie is fine.
I always sing - Sadie, the cleaning lady ..
It's not one of my favourites due to personal taste.
I prefer ... Sally, Adrienne, Jade

Duckies · 20/05/2024 11:19

It sounds like a 'cool girl' name a bit.

I think it originally is a pet name for Sarah? But then so is Sally, so...

Unfortunately I can't not mentally sing Sexy Sadie by the Beatles when I see this name but doubt that will be a big thing given the song is 60 years old. (ETA I'd never do it in person!)

My impressions but IMO none of these are good reasons to be put off an otherwise nice name!

BottomlessBrunch · 20/05/2024 15:57

I know one Sadie and she's lovely so I'm biased to love it

Lovely for a cleaning lady!

wow-how-wie!

VeryQuaintIrene · 20/05/2024 16:09

The only Sadies I've ever known are canine, though it's perfectly nice in itself.

Thank you - I was doing the same "sexy Sadie" and couldn't remember why! Beatles are so timeless!

muddyford · 20/05/2024 16:57

When I was a child our greengrocer used to deliver using a horse-drawn wagon. The horse was a Clydesdale mare called Sadie.

unsync · 20/05/2024 17:17

I knew a labrador called Sadie, it seemed to suit her.

Rocknrollstar · 20/05/2024 17:56

Love it. Go for it.

Q2C4 · 21/05/2024 19:09

I love it - always reminds me of the heroine from the Stephen King book called 11/22/63 (which I also recommend!).

NewGirlinClass · 16/06/2024 15:14

I think it is lovely name.
Could be a character in an English BMovie from 1950. Drinks Pink Gin at the Golf Club. Her late husband had a 'good' war. Rapid promotion to Brigadier.

resm · 18/06/2024 09:42

I think it’s a great name and not old fashioned at all. Sadie Sink, the young actress from Stranger Things wears it well. I would have Sarah on the BC though. I really love it.

Pinkbits · 18/06/2024 15:48

Forever synonymous with the bra lady.

Hannahspeltbackwards · 18/06/2024 18:15

I love it!

I always said if I ever had twin girls, they would be Sadie and Zara.

Didshejustsaythatoutloud · 18/06/2024 18:17

Guess it's OK if your 83😂

RedYellowPinkGreenPurpleOrangeBlue · 18/06/2024 18:20

It's right up there with Sharon and Tracey for me sorry @OpenRobin Old fashioned name that was popular in the 1960s and 1970s. (It's a no from me, sorry.)
