Would you have 2 children with the same initial?

My fave boys name has the same initial as DS's name and I just think it will be too confusing in years to come with post etc - or is that a really trivial reason not to use the name I want to?

I didn't used to live next door to the infamous Lizzie Bardsley who appeared on Wife Swap by the way!

Ever so slightly OT, I once worked with identical twins called Shelley and Sherry. So not only the same initials, but the names sounded almost the same too! In fact, Shelley told me that more than once, when introducing themselves, people would look aghast and say "What! You even have the same NAME????"

My Uncle married a woman with the same name, he is Leslie and she is Lesley. Neither have a middle name, their son has a name beginning with S their daughters name begins with L. Aunt L would tell you the hardest bit (apart from having three L Smiths) is going to the doctors. She would be going for her Pill and the doctor would have Uncle's notes in front of him.
DH on the other hand has a cousin and his dad with the same first intial as him. The bank once cancelled DH's dads bank cards instead of DH's

My mother had 4

I think it's a bit naff to be honest. My dh and I share an initial and it is confusing. I wouldn't rely on a Miss/Mrs/Mr on the post front - lots of post just comes without titles (and some get it wrong anyway) certainly me and dh have opened each other's post before. You also can't expect peolpe sending you stuff to include your initials, because in general they won't. We veto'd any "J" names on that account - didn't even look at them (although lots of nice J names - but as there are hundreds of names that don't begin with J not really a problem).

Having said that it is of course entirely up to you

Tortington · 27/04/2008 01:58

we have three j's in the house. twof them are working and use the same bank.

the stupidest tink was banking at the ame place - all other post is v. easily distinguishable. its not hard is ti? harly rocket science or owt - you can tell by the envelope.

theonly complicated thing to do would be to have twins with sametwo initialls and then you wouldnt know to whom the birthday cars were addressed

as long as you bank at different places ( my tip of the day) no problems

I wouldn't give it a second thought. DS, DD and my names all end in the same 3 letters. Totally coincidentally and wouldn't ever have noticed if our dentist hadn't pointed it out. He calls us "the three xxxs"!

lou222 · 27/04/2008 21:09

this is my pet hate
lots of my friends have named their children with the same initial and i find their names just don't trip off the tongue
naff idea and sooo many people do it!

SparklyGothKat · 27/04/2008 21:15

I have the same initial as dd2 and Ds1 and Ds2 both have the same initial, I didn't even think about until lisad said about them having C as their initial

Budcat · 28/04/2008 04:06

We have used my maiden name as middle names for both DSs. It is a name that can be a first or surname anyway so does not look double barrel. My cousin has done the same thing with the same name-we both have sons and it is a nod to our sides of the family.

yes, i don't see why not. More than 2 starts to sound comical.

whoops · 28/04/2008 13:32

I wouldn't but only because dsis & I had the same initials which was a nightmare with post
I maybe would if there were different middle initials
