Would you have 2 children with the same initial?

My fave boys name has the same initial as DS's name and I just think it will be too confusing in years to come with post etc - or is that a really trivial reason not to use the name I want to?

stuffitllama · 27/03/2008 20:46

yes i have

peanutbear · 27/03/2008 20:46

Yes I have a GAW and a GWW

bluenosesaint · 27/03/2008 20:48

My dd2 and dd3 have the same initial first name, but different initial middle names.

I'm forever calling out the wrong name, grrrr Saying that, i also confuse their names with dd1's name and she has got different initials entirely, so maybe i'm just dopey

Beauregard · 27/03/2008 20:48

I know of someone who has 3 dc with the initial R and also someone who has 3 dc with the initial M.

stuffitllama · 27/03/2008 20:49

mine have three out of four initials the same, have never thought it might be confusing

Lumley · 27/03/2008 21:01

My three children all have the same initial which happens to be G and I think its tacky. I wasn't bothered about the post as I don't think many people do say Miss J. Bloggs but normally state Miss Bloggs. Could always ask people to put on full name i.e. Miss Joanne Bloggs, wouldn't be much more of an effort the sender.

I would yes. My dad's initals were DJH, my stepmum DH and my brother was DH and I vowed I would never have same initals in family as confusion with post occasionally and my dad had to open borther's mail on occasions however I am parent now and my husband initials are JDR, my son is JDR and my daughter is JRR my middle daughter is LCR.

5 just think it's an unnecessary complication that's easily avoided - so why go there?

AbbeyA · 28/03/2008 07:24

I would have hated to have had siblings with the same initial and have to worry that my post wouldn't be private.

foofi · 28/03/2008 07:31

A friend of mine has 4 dcs, all with the same initial.

lucykate · 28/03/2008 07:50

dd and ds have the same initial, it wasn't 100% intentional, we let dd choose ds's name from a shortlist of 3 as we couldn't make our minds up. it was either that or she wanted to call him elsie!

CantSleepWontSleep · 28/03/2008 08:09

I definitely wouldn't.

berolina · 28/03/2008 08:16

A friend has done this - two boys - initial also the same as the dh's. I only started getting when friend told me the choices they had made for if their ds2 had been a girl. Both began with the same letter as her name.

needtoasksomething · 28/03/2008 08:48

If you love the name then dont worry about the initials being the same!

As for people who say they never even considered whether their DCs names 'go together' then I cant understand how it didnt cross your minds!
Imagine if you had a traditional name for 1st DC then an ultra modern one for DC2.. wouldnt that sound weird? I made sure both DS's names were of a 'similar ilk' iyswim!

lottiejenkins · 28/03/2008 08:54

I have a friend whos 3 dd's all have the same first initial and my mum and her two sisters have the same first initial too.

ChasingSquirrels · 28/03/2008 09:01

horses for courses isn't it. one person can't understand how it wouldn't cross your mind, another can't understand why it would even be a consideration. Same with initials as with going together.
For me the post thing never even came into the equation, I just didn't want to have children with the same first initial, in the same way that I wanted them to have a 2nd name that began with a vowel (well that was a concious thought process for ds2, with ds1 his full name just came to me and that was it).
But equally I don't understand the going together thing, they are their own separate people, why would their names need to go together.

Miaou · 28/03/2008 09:02

Hmm, I have two boys and two girls - the boys are C and E and the girls are C and E. So although there are initials in common we have "Miss C" and "Mr C" and "Miss E" and "Mr E" - so for the most point these problems are circumvented. (Incidentally, the CECE thing was coincidental, not by design!)

chrissnow · 28/03/2008 09:19

I have a GAP and a GEP. It wasn't concious to name them both G's and not until recently when eldest got a letter re her child trust fund (why it was addressed to her at age 2.6?) that I realised we are going to have some confusion for a few years when things are addressed to Miss G P*. I don't suppose many people will use the middle initial as well. Oh well.

Womba1 · 28/03/2008 09:25

I have 2 cousins, who are sisters, that have the same initial. That in itself, is fine.
However, they have both married blokes who also have the same initials, and they are all best mates and go out together. It does sound pretty twee!

Cousin 1.. Hi, my name is J.. and this is my ds, J... this is my dh, J and my bil, J...

I'm just wiating for kids to come along....

purpleduck · 28/03/2008 09:27

My sisters and I were (before marriage): CLA, CLA, and CAA

We did not like it.

princessmel · 28/03/2008 09:27

My 2 children have the same initials. Different middle letter though. Not intentional, we just like names beginning with that letter.
Not sure what we'd do about no.3

princessmel · 28/03/2008 09:28

If we like a name with the same letter then I don't really think it matters.

cyteen · 28/03/2008 12:59

My brother and I had the same initial (S) and it was always fine, our names went well together and didn't sound similar. It's probably a bit different with same-sex sibs though, as far as mixing up post is concerned.

DforDiva · 28/03/2008 13:06

dd and ds have the same initials we liked the names, there was no intention to match. although it starts the same letter, it pronounce different. iyswim

cushioncover · 28/03/2008 15:26

IF you like it, go for it, especially if they sound completely different.

I know a woman whose 2 children have names which are in full rhyme with each other. That is far weirder IMO. I think it's worse because they're both one syllable.

Other than any post issues, I doubt most people would say, Sarah and Stephen, oh they're too similar!
